Clinical and in vitro cross-reactivity of cereal grains in children with IgE-mediated wheat allergy.
CONCLUSION: The cross-reactivity rate was quite low for oat and Job's tears compared to that of barley; therefore, avoidance of all cereal grains may be unnecessary in patients with severe wheat allergy. PMID: 32327208 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Pediococcus acidilactici Strain Alleviates Gluten-Induced Food Allergy and Regulates Gut Microbiota in Mice
In this study, the effects of Pediococcus acidilactici XZ31 against gluten-induced allergy were investigated in a mouse model. The oral administration of P. acidilactici XZ31 attenuated clinical and intestinal allergic responses in allergic mice. Further results showed that P. acidilactici XZ31 regulated Th1/Th2 immune balance toward Th1 polarization, which subsequently induced a reduction in gluten-specific IgE production. We also found that P. acidilactici XZ31 modulated gut microbiota homeostasis by balancing the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio and increasing bacterial diversity and the abundance of butyrate-producing ba...

The Efficacy of a New Protocol of Oral Immunotherapy to Wheat for Desensitization and Induction of Tolerance
This study aimed to design and implement a new wheat OIT protocol, evaluate its efficacy in tolerance induction, and assess specific immunoglobulin-E (IgE) and regulatory T cell changes. From 2015 to 2017, 26 patients with confirmed IgE-mediated hypersensitivity to wheat were treated via oral immunotherapy (OIT). Patients with prior anaphylactic episodes underwent OIT using the rush method. Specific IgE concentrations and the number of regulatory T cells (CD4+ CD25+ FOXP3+ T cells) were measured using Allergy Screen immunoblot assay and flow cytometry, respectively. This study was registered in the Iranian Registry of Clin...
