Identification of New Potential Allergens from Green-lipped Mussel (Perna Canaliculus)
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2022 Dec 24;21(6):711-715. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v21i6.11532.ABSTRACTThe green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) originates from New Zealand. To preserve the health benefits of green-lipped mussel meat, it is freeze-dried to make a long-lasting powder. The powder is used to treat arthritis because of its potential anti-inflammatory properties. The report describes a 54-year-old woman who developed immediate rhinoconjunctival and respiratory symptoms after inhaling green-lipped mussel powder she gave to her dog for arthritis. A skin prick test with green-lipped mussel powder was performed. Prote...

Citrin: a novel food allergen in citrus seeds and citrus-derived pectin that shows cross-reactivity with cashew and pistachio
CONCLUSION: Citrus pectin may be contaminated with citrus seeds. Citrin, a newly identified allergen in citrus seeds, appears to be the culprit antigen in citrus seeds and contaminated citrus pectin. Citrin is highly homologous with Ana o 2 in cashew and Pis v 2 in pistachio, suggesting potential for cross-reactivity and providing an explanation for co-allergenicity of cashew/pistachio, citrus seeds, and citrus pectin.PMID:37659472 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2023.08.603

Maternal Exposure of BALB/c Mice to Indoor NO2 and Allergic Asthma Syndrome in Offspring at Adulthood with Evaluation of DNA Methylation Associated Th2 Polarization
Conclusions: Maternal exposure to indoor environmental NO2 causes allergic asthma-related consequences in offspring absent any subsequent lung provocation and potentiates the symptoms of allergic asthma in adult offspring following postnatal allergic sensitization and challenge; this response is associated with the Th2-based immune response and DNA methylation of the IL4 gene. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP685 Received: 19 June 2016 Revised: 07 June 2017 Accepted: 19 June 2017 Published: 13 September 2017 Address correspondence to N. Sex Differences in IL-33-Induced STAT6-Dependent Type 2 Airway Inflammation
In this study, we have demonstrated that delivery of OVA+IL-33 to the lungs of mice induced an innate inflammatory response that exhibited sex-dependent differences in magnitude and regulation. Compared to males, female mice produced larger amounts of type 2 cytokines and chemokines and had substantially more activated eosinophils and AAM in the lung; each of these responses was significantly lower in female mice lacking STAT6. On the contrary, male mice displayed less inflammation overall, and in some instances, no apparent role for STAT6 was observed. BALF levels of inflammatory mediators and eosinophils were very lo...

ALCAM Mediates DC Migration Through Afferent Lymphatics and Promotes Allospecific Immune Reactions
In conclusion, our findings identify ALCAM as a novel therapeutic target for preventing corneal allograft rejection in high-risk patient populations. Moreover, given the documented contribution of ALCAM to (lymph)angiogenesis, DC migration, and T cell activation, ALCAM blockade might represent a therapeutic strategy for treating other immune-mediated inflammatory conditions, such as solid organ transplant rejection, allergy or autoimmune diseases. Experimental Procedures Cloning, Expression, and Purification of I/F8-Fc and KSF-Fc For cloning of I/F8-Fc and KSF-Fc the respective scFv sequence was amplified from previousl...

Patch Testing With an Extended Metal Allergen Series at the Massachusetts General Hospital (2006-2017).
CONCLUSIONS: Allergy to metals, including those not included in standard series, may be more prevalent than previously suspected. Results may help guide future testing for suspected metal allergy, although future studies are warranted. PMID: 32520762 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

LAIR-1 Limits Neutrophilic Airway Inflammation
In conclusion, the immune inhibitory receptor LAIR-1 suppresses neutrophil tissue migration and acts as a negative regulator of neutrophil-driven airway inflammation during lung diseases. Following our recent observations in humans, this study provides crucial in-vivo evidence that LAIR-1 is a promising target for pharmacological intervention in such pathologies. Introduction The lungs are constantly exposed to potential pathogens and other harmful agents. To protect against sudden incursions, neutrophils patrol the lung capillaries. A rapid and robust neutrophil response is crucial to antimicrobial defense (1, 2). N...

Screening for Gold Sensitization in Consecutive Eczema Patients: Prevalence, Relevance, and Sources of Exposure.
CONCLUSIONS: Because it may be difficult to diagnose gold allergy, screening may be recommended when history taken suggests gold exposure. PMID: 31045934 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Simultaneous positive patch test reactions to neomycin and low-molecular-weight heparins: possible cross-reaction?
ConclusionThere was no proof of cross reaction between neomycin and LMWHs in this study, suggesting that the simultaneous reaction may be a coincidence. Since the number of individuals studied was low, allergy to LMWHs following injection in individuals with a history of neomycin allergy should be further investigated.

A case of 1-month-old female infant delaying peritoneal dialysis introduction by low-potassium anti-allergic formula treated with sodium polystyrene sulfonate
AbstractThe 8806H formula is the only renal formula available for pediatric patients with chronic kidney disease in Japan. A 1-month-old female infant could not be administered 8806H because of milk allergy. Administration of low-potassium anti-allergic formula treated with sodium polystyrene sulfonate maintained adequate serum potassium levels, and introduction of peritoneal dialysis could be delayed. The patient had severe renal dysfunction secondary to bilateral hypoplastic and multi-cystic kidneys. Although she received the 8806H formula, this product was switched to hydrolyzed casein formula because she developed alle...
