Early Life Antibiotic Use and Subsequent Diagnosis of Food Allergy and Allergic Diseases
Conclusions and Clinical RelevanceWe observed associations between antibiotic orders and allergic diseases, providing evidence of a potentially modifiable clinical practice associated with pediatric allergic disease. Differences by antibiotic class should be further explored, as this knowledge could inform pediatric treatment decisions. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Leading Digital Transformation
The freshly minted role of Chief Digital Officer is enjoying something of a boom.“At the end of 2015, there were approximately 2,000 CDOs. CDO hires have been doubling every year and I expect there to be 2,500 CDOs by the end of 2016,” the CDO Club’s CEO David Mathison noted recently.1But what ’s fuelling this trend? Quite simply, traditional businesses have woken up to the need fordigital transformation as customers demand new ways of engaging with businesses and the companies themselves look to improve the customer experience, streamline processes and reap the benefits of innovation down the length of the value ...

Cohort Study of Severe Bronchiolitis during Infancy and Risk of Asthma by Age 5 Years
Conclusions: In a large Boston birth cohort, the frequency of severe bronchiolitis and childhood asthma was similar to published data. Among children with severe bronchiolitis, the risk of developing asthma was lower than prior studies but still high (27.6%). This difference may be due to different study designs, populations, and outcome definitions studied.

Adverse Drug Reactions Associated with Ceftaroline Use: A 2-Center Retrospective Cohort
Conclusions Ceftaroline is used to treat a range of infections beyond SSTI and CAP. We observed a high rate of ADRs from ceftaroline, including signs of severe HSRs. More data are needed to understand the frequency and predictors of ceftaroline ADRs and HSRs.

Redesigning the allergy module of the electronic health record
Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a major cause of morbidity in modern health care,1,2 with 20% to 35% of patients reporting 1 or more ADRs.3,4 Some ADRs warrant entry into the electronic health record (EHR) to inform future prescribing and prevent recurrence. This clinical documentation is typically placed in the allergy section of the EHR. Although this section is termed allergy, only a few of the reactions are immunologically mediated, with even fewer mediated through antigen-specific IgE (ie, classic allergy).

Usage of allergy codes in primary care electronic health records: a national evaluation in Scotland
ConclusionsThis analysis of Read codes use suggests that, introduction of the more detailed SNOMED‐CT, in isolation, will not improve the quality of allergy coding in Scottish primary care. The introduction of SNOMED‐CT should be accompanied by initiatives aimed at improving coding quality, such as the definition of terms/codes, availability of terminology browsers, a recommended list of codes and mechanisms to incentivize detailed coding of the condition and the underlying allergic trigger. This article is protected by copyright.
