The Clinical Value of Oxymatrine in Preventing Lamivudine Induced YMDD Mutation: A Meta-Analysis.
Authors: He M, Wu Y, Wang M, Chen W, Yuan W, Jiang J Abstract Oxymatrine (OMTR) is widely used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in China. Several reports revealed that combination of OMTR and lamivudine reduced the incidence of tyrosine- (Y-) methionine- (M-) aspartic acid- (D-) aspartic acid (D) (YMDD) mutations in CHB patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical value of oxymatrine in preventing lamivudine induced YMDD mutation using meta-analysis of data from published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and to provide some useful information for clinical treatment and future resear...

Quality of randomized controlled trials in acupuncture treatment of hepatitis B virus infection--a systematic review.
Authors: Zheng S, Du J, Lu X, Zhang Y, Hu L, Wang W Abstract The purpose of this work was to evaluate the quality of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with acupuncture treatment for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. A systematic review of the literature for clinical trials was performed up to September 2008. RCTs assessing acupuncture point stimulation for patients with HBV infection were considered for inclusion. The search identified 70 relevant trials meeting the inclusion. The quality of each trial was assessed using the revised Consolidated Standards for Reporting of Trials (CONSORT) statement, facilitating...

Literature review of liver injury induced by Tinospora crispa associated with two cases of acute fulminant hepatitis.
CONCLUSIONS: We concluded that people might cause hepatic injury or even death without correctly identifying these two Tinospora species. PMID: 30670256 [PubMed - in process]

Correlation between Traditional Chinese Medicine symptom patterns and serum concentration of zinc, iron, copper and magnesium in patients with hepatitis B and associated liver cirrhosis.
CONCLUSION: The serum zinc and magnesium concentrations correlated with certain TCM patterns of symptoms in patients with HBV-induced liver cirrhosis and CHB. It may be helpful to interpret the pathogenic change in the TCM symptom patterns in liver cirrhosis and CHB, and also to conduct clinical treatment of the diseases based on identified TCM patterns. The Use of Hijama (Wet Cupping) in Alternative and Complementary Medicine: Efficacious or Perilous?
Publication date: Available online 10 September 2016 Source:Journal of Acupuncture and Meridian Studies Author(s): Syed Mohammad Mazhar Uddin, Aatera Haq, Haris Sheikh The field of medicine has remained an extensive ground for major advancements over recent decades with the primary purpose of reducing the suffering of humanity and improving the course of life. However, despite these modern advancements, the popularity of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has increased. The use of CAM in many developed and developing countries is considerable. One such example of CAM is Hijama, which literally means sucking (cup...

Dynamic Analysis of Coupled Sawtooth and Rectangle Cellular Neural Networks with Application in HBV Patients' B-Scan Images
Liver damage caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections is diffuse. Live medical images and FibroScan images show that it is inhomogeneous. Modeling and interpreting such phenomena are both important for theoretical research and practical application. The cellular neural networks (CNNs) introduced by Chua and Yang can model widely observed patterns in both nonbiological and biological media. The sawtooth and rectangle (SR) CNN introduced by Chua and colleagues is able to generate SR-shaped patterns for any random-input grayscale patterns, which are also similar to some chronic HBV-infected patients' liver B-scan images. ...

Chinese Herbal Medicine Ameliorated the Development of Chronic Kidney Disease in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C: A Retrospective Population-Based Cohort Study.
This study showed that the patients suffering from hepatitis C with CHM treatment more than 90 days as an adjuvant therapy combined with western medical treatment modalities exhibited a decreased risk of developing CKD (hazard ratio (HR) = 0.40, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.21-0.76, p value <0.01). The Kaplan-Meier curve revealed a lower cumulative incidence rate of CKD (p value = 0.004) for the CHM cohort. For further reference, we herein offer the ten most frequently prescribed single herbs and herbal formulas; as such, Salviae miltiorrhizae and Jia-Wei-Xiao-Yao-San were the most commonly prescribed si...
