Evaluation of the 1000 renal transplants carried out at the University Hospital of the Botucatu Medical School (HCFMB) - UNESP and their evolution over the years.
CONCLUSION: There was a significant increase in the number of transplants, with evolution in graft survival, despite the worsening in the profiles of recipients and donors. PMID: 29927459 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Thirty years of research on infection and prostate cancer: No conclusive evidence for a link. A systematic review
Conclusions: The role of infection in the etiology of CaP has yet to be determined despite 30 years of research efforts. A discovery of an infectious agent that is associated with CaP would be of great medical importance; however, such a link would have to be firmly established before impacting on patient care.

CMV and BKPyV Infections in Renal Transplant Recipients Receiving an mTOR Inhibitor-Based Regimen Versus a CNI-Based Regimen: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized, Controlled Trials.
CONCLUSIONS: We found moderate- to high-quality evidence of reduced risk of cytomegalovirus infection in renal transplant recipients in the mTOR inhibitor-based compared with the calcineurin inhibitor-based regimen. Our review also suggested that a combination of a mTOR inhibitor and a reduced dose of calcineurin inhibitor may be associated with similar eGFR and rates of acute rejections and serious adverse events compared with a standard calcineurin inhibitor-based regimen at the expense of higher incidence of proteinuria and wound-healing complications. < em > Pneumocystis pneumonia < /em > in patients with primary nephrotic syndrome
CONCLUSION: PCP was not unusual in PNS patients, and the most important risk factors were prednisone usage, other immunosuppressive therapy, and a lower CD4+ cell count; however, these patients had a good outcome after sufficient treatment.PMID:35113013 | DOI:10.5414/CN110679

Valganciclovir prophylaxis for cytomegalovirus infection in pediatric kidney transplant recipients: a single-center experience
ConclusionsOur preliminary study suggests that the dosage endorsed by The Transplantation Society may be an overdose for Japanese pediatric recipients. Further studies are required to examine the safety and efficacy of VGCV prophylaxis in Japanese pediatric recipients.

Use of Leflunomide in Renal Transplant Recipients with Ganciclovir-Resistant/Refractory Cytomegalovirus Infection: A Case Series from the University of Chicago
Conclusion: Leflunomide was well tolerated and successful in preventing recurrence of viremia in renal transplant recipients with resistant CMV infection. The beneficial effect of leflunomide in this setting warrants further investigation.Case Rep Nephrol Dial 2015;5:96-105

Evaluation of the relationship and postoperative glomerular filtration rate between the living donor and the recipients in kidney transplantation
Conclusion This study shows that the relationship of the donor to their recipient resulted in significant differences in the postoperative GFR and graft loss of the recipients. Recipients' kidneys donated from the spouse had the worst GFR compared to other groups.

Cytomegalovirus infection after kidney transplantation and long-term graft loss.
CONCLUSION: CMV replication after renal transplant is a risk factor for long-term graft loss but not mortality. Prevention strategies decrease post-transplant CMV infection and disease. PMID: 28946964 [PubMed - in process]

Incidence and risk factors of common viral infections among renal transplant recipients during the first year post-transplant in North-eastern Iran.
Abstract Despite major therapeutic advances, management of viral infections in renal transplant recipients is still a major challenge. Hence, it is urgently needed to establish protocols for appropriate control and the prevention of viral infection. We evaluated demographic/clinical characteristics, frequency, and risk factors of symptomatic viral infections in renal transplant recipients during the 1st year posttransplant, in northeastern Iran. We retrospectively reviewed medical files of 247 patients including 146 males and 101 females who had undergone renal transplantation at Montaserie organ transplantation h...
