Continuing Medical Education and Lifelong Learning
This article reviews the development of MOC and its integration with the 6 core competencies, including the practice-based learning and improvement cycle. The concept of lifelong learning is discussed, with specific focus on different methods for surgeons to engage in learning, including simulation, coaching, and communities of practice. In addition, the future of MOC in continuous professional development is reviewed.PMID:34242611 | DOI:10.1016/j.suc.2021.05.015

Current efforts in medical education to incorporate national health priorities
DiscussionAlthough strategies for combatting these challenges exist, the effectiveness of educational models depends on them being locally adaptable and applicable. Curricular reform must go hand‐in‐hand with research and evaluation to develop comprehensive futuristic models of teaching and learning that will adequately prepare health professionals to address the challenges.

Lifelong Learning for Clinical Practice: How to Leverage Technology for Telebehavioral Health Care and Digital Continuing Medical Education
AbstractPurpose of ReviewPsychiatric practice continues to evolve and play an important role in patients ’ lives, the field of medicine, and health care delivery. Clinicians must learn a variety of clinical care systems and lifelong learning (LLL) is crucial to apply knowledge, develop skills, and adjust attitudes. Technology is rapidly becoming a key player—in delivery, lifelong learning, and educ ation/training.Recent FindingsThe evidence base for telepsychiatry/telemental health via videoconferencing has been growing for three decades, but a greater array of technologies have emerged in the last decade (e.g., social...

Authorship Order in Medical Education Publications: In Search of Practical Guidance for the Community.
This study describes principles commonly applied to authorship order decisions within the medical education community and educators' opinions about the significance of authorship order. Approach: A questionnaire was developed to ascertain current practices related to authorship decisions. Sixteen items were rated in terms of frequency of actual use and the desirability of the practice using a 4-point rating scale: 1 (never), 2 (sometimes), 3 (often), and 4 (always). Additional questions addressed the perceived significance of authorship order. The last set of questions provided information about respondents' personal and c...

Reinvigorating Continuing Medical Education: Meeting the Challenges of the Digital Age
Clinicians in today ’s health care environment face an overwhelming quantity of knowledge that requires continued education and lifelong learning. However, traditional continuing medical education (CME) courses cannot meet these educational needs, particularly given the proliferation of knowledge and increasing deman ds on clinicians’ time and resources. CME courses that previously offered only in-person, face-to-face education must evolve in a learner-centric manner founded on principles of adult learning theory to remain relevant in the current era.

Knowledge of PCSK9 and Continued Educational Gaps: Evaluating the Impact of Continuing Medical Education
This study evaluated the impact of continuing medical education (CME) on increasing knowledge and awareness of the role of PCSK9 in lipid metabolism and analyzed persistent educational gaps to determine needs for future education. For cardiologists who participated in the CME activity, comparison of individually linked preassessment question responses to their respective postassessment question responses demonstrated improvement (n = 83; P
