Temporal trends and racial/ethnic disparity in self-reported pediatric food allergy in the United States.
CONCLUSION: Self-report of food allergy among US children has sharply increased in the past 2 decades. The increase has been greatest among non-Hispanic black children, a disparity that needs to be investigated. PMID: 24428971 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Hazelnut allergy differs between children and adults in frequency of severity, aetiology and relevance of diagnostic parameters
Conclusions and Clinical RelevanceHazelnut allergy differs between children and adults with respect to frequency of severity, aetiology and relevance of diagnostic parameters. Therefore, age has to be taken into account in the diagnostic work‐up of a hazelnut allergy. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Differences in empowerment and quality of life among parents of children with food allergy.
CONCLUSION: Parental empowerment and FAQOL vary significantly among mothers and fathers of children with food allergy. Greater effects on FAQOL were seen for milk and egg compared with other food allergies. Although parents of children with food allergy might be empowered to care for their child, they continue to experience impaired FAQOL owing to fears of allergen exposure beyond their control. Parental Confidence in Managing Food Allergy: Development and Validation of the Food Allergy Self‐Efficacy Scale for Parents (FASE‐P)
Conclusions and clinical relevanceThe FASE‐P is a reliable and valid scale for use with parents from a general population. Its application within clinical settings could aid provision of advice and improve targeted interventions by identifying areas where parents have less confidence in managing their child's food allergy. This article is protected by copyright. Papain Induced Occupational Asthma with Kiwi and Fig Allergy.
Authors: Jiang N, Yin J, Wen L Abstract Papain is a proteolytic enzyme which is widely used in food industry, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. Occupational and non-occupational papain allergies have previously been documented; however, there are limited publications about papain allergy with its relative fruit allergy. Here, we present a case of occupational, IgE-mediated papain allergy with kiwi fruit and fig fruit allergy. A 53-year-old man suffered from rhinitis for several years, with the onset of his symptoms coinciding with the time he started to work at a sausage processing plant where papain is often used as...

Intrapartum antibiotic exposure for group B Streptococcus treatment did not increase penicillin allergy in children.
CONCLUSION: To the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate intrapartum exposure to penicillin for GBS treatment and subsequent development of penicillin allergy in the child. In contrast to other atopic diseases, intrapartum antibiotic exposure does not alter the risk of penicillin allergy. Parents and obstetricians should be reassured when using penicillin for prevention of neonatal GBS. PMID: 26815706 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical Significance of Component Allergens in Fagales Pollen-Sensitized Peanut Allergy in Korea.
CONCLUSIONS: Ara h 2 and Ara h 8 may be important component allergens for discriminating peanut allergy. PMID: 27582401 [PubMed]

Prospective assessment of diagnostic tests for pediatric penicillin allergy, from clinical history to challenge tests ✰,✰✰,✰✰✰.
CONCLUSION: Conventional predictors of allergy to penicillin performed weakly. The authors propose straightforward penicillin provocation testing in controlled, experienced centers for the diagnosis of non-severe penicillin allergy in children. PMID: 29803713 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Factors Affecting Food Allergy-Related Quality of Life From Parents' Perception in Turkish Children.
CONCLUSIONS: The Turkish FAQLQ-PF is a valid and reliable scale. FA-related QoL was significantly worse with age. Coexistent asthma, anaphylaxis regardless of its severity, cow's milk allergy, sibling allergy and the older and educated mothers seem to poorly affect QoL. PMID: 29949834 [PubMed]

Pollen-Food Allergy Syndrome in Korean Pollinosis Patients: A Nationwide Survey.
CONCLUSIONS: This was the first nationwide study of PFAS in Korea. The prevalence of PFAS was 41.7%, and 8.9% of the PFAS patients had anaphylaxis. These results will provide clinically useful information to physicians. PMID: 30306747 [PubMed]

Molecular Allergy Diagnostics as an Adjunct to Conventional Diagnostics in a Secondary Pediatric Referral Center.
CONCLUSIONS: Most patients in a secondary pediatric referral center with suspected IgE mediated allergy can be managed by conventional diagnostic methods. MA diagnostics may be useful in small and selected subgroups as in patients with suspected peanut allergy, however, may not be helpful in all cases. PMID: 31187717 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

House dust mite allergy and shrimp allergy: a complex interaction.
Conclusions. Shrimp allergy seems to occur uniquely in association with hypersensitivity to HDM allergens and tropomyosin is the main shrimp allergen but not a major one, at least in Italy. Along with tropomyosin-specific IgE levels, monosensitization to HDM seems to represent a risk factor for the development of shrimp allergy among HDM allergic patients. Skin tests and challenge-based drug allergy diagnosis: a retrospective study of patients with confirmed drug allergy.
Conclusions. Most drug allergy diagnoses were based on multistep DCT. The identified predictors of DCT interruption during up-dosing can support the development of more personalized DCTs protocols. PMID: 31594290 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
