Auriculasin enhances ROS generation to regulate colorectal cancer cell apoptosis, ferroptosis, oxeiptosis, invasion and colony formation
Biochem Biophys Res Commun. 2021 Dec 1;587:99-106. doi: 10.1016/j.bbrc.2021.11.101. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTColorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in the digestive system, and Chinese herbal medicine plays an important role in tumor treatment. The in-depth study of auriculasin isolated from Flemingia philippinensis showed that auriculasin promoted reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in a concentration-dependent manner; when ROS scavenger NAC was added, the effects of auriculasin in promoting ROS generation and inhibiting cell viability were blocked. Auriculasin induced CRC cell apopto...

Chinese Herbal Preparation SaiLuoTong Alleviates Brain Ischemia via Nrf2 Antioxidation Pathway –Dependent Cerebral Microvascular Protection
Stroke is one of the most devastating diseases worldwide. The Chinese herbal preparation SaiLuoTong (SLT) capsule showed outstanding therapeutic effects on stroke and its sequelae. The aim of this study was to further elucidate its therapeutic mechanism. We duplicated a permanent cerebral ischemia model in rats by MCAO and used SLT (33 and 16.5 mg/kg) to intervene. The results showed SLT dose dependently decreased infarction volumes, relieved neuron degeneration and loss, and ameliorated neurological functions, and the dose of 33 mg/kg had statistical significance (compared with the model group, p < 0.05); SLT of 33 ...

Ferruginol prevents degeneration of dopaminergic neurons by enhancing clearance of α-synuclein in neuronal cells
Fitoterapia. 2021 Oct 19:105066. doi: 10.1016/j.fitote.2021.105066. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLewy bodies are characteristic spherical inclusions in Parkinson's disease (PD) that are formed by α-synuclein fibrils. Ferruginol (Fer) is an amonomeric compound isolated from a traditional Chinese herb. Here, we show that Fer exerted potent neuroprotective effects in both in vitro and in vivo PD models. Neuronal cells transfected with A53T mutant (A53T) α-synuclein plasmids and treated with Fer exhibited attenuated the cytotoxicity induced by pathogenic A53T α-synuclein overexpression. Further, when we transfected neurona...

Panax notoginseng saponins reduces the cisplatin-induced acute renal injury by increasing HIF-1 α/BNIP3 to inhibit mitochondrial apoptosis pathway
Biomed Pharmacother. 2021 Aug 9;142:111965. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2021.111965. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCisplatin (CDDP) may induce apoptosis of renal tubular epithelial cells (RTEC) and cause CDDP-induced acute kidney injury (CAKI) during cancer treatment, but yet lack of preventive measures and effective treatment. As a new Chinese herbal preparation, Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) has been found to mitigate CDDP-induced CAKI through elevating the expression of HIF-1α in the rat model, according to the data from our previous works. However, the underlying link between HIF-1α and apoptosis has not been well eluci...

Oxymatrine attenuates oxidized low ‑density lipoprotein‑induced HUVEC injury by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome‑mediated pyroptosis via the activation of the SIRT1/Nrf2 signaling pathway
Int J Mol Med. 2021 Oct;48(4):187. doi: 10.3892/ijmm.2021.5020. Epub 2021 Aug 9.ABSTRACTOxymatrine, a quinolizidine alkaloid isolated from the traditional Chinese herb Sophora flavescens Aiton, has been demonstrated to exert anti‑inflammatory and atherosclerotic effects, but the molecular mechanism has yet to be elucidated. Accumulating evidence indicates an important role of NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome‑mediated pyroptosis in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. The present study was undertaken to investigate whether oxymatrine attenuates oxidized low‑density lipoprotein (ox‑LDL)‑ind...
