Disparities in Survival of Hematologic Malignancies in the Context of Social Determinants of Health: A Systematic Review
Blood Adv. 2023 Aug 28:bloodadvances.2023010690. doi: 10.1182/bloodadvances.2023010690. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSocial Determinants of Health (SDH) have been reported as relevant factors responsible for health inequity. We sought to assess clinical data from observational studies evaluating the impact of SDH on the outcomes of patients with hematologic malignancies. Thus, we performed a systematic review in 6 databases on September 1, 2021, in which paired reviewers independently screened studies and included data from 41 studies. We assessed the risk of bias by the Joanna Briggs Institute appraisal tools and analyze...

Trends in and Prognostic Significance of Time to Treatment in Pancreatic Cancer: A Population-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: Delayed treatment approaching 2 months was observed in 10% of the population. The rising temporal trend in TTT may be attributed to the increasing shift toward neoadjuvant CT/RT in early-stage PDAC and/or the increasing use of tissue biopsy prior to surgery.PMID:37624518 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14221-9

Demographic predictors of emergency service utilization patterns in youth at risk of suicide
CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with a history of suicidality, those who identify as Black, young adults, patients with Medicaid, and female patients were more likely to be frequent utilizers of the ED within the 2 years following their initial visit. This pattern may suggest inadequate health care access for these groups, and a need to develop better care coordination with an intersectional focus to facilitate utilization of other health services.PMID:37431982 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.12975

Factors associated with lung cancer risk factor documentation
CONCLUSIONS: We found a low rate of sufficient lung cancer risk factor documentation and associations of risk factor documentation based on patient-level factors such as race, insurance status, language, and patient portal activation. Risk factor documentation rates varied across clinics, and only approximately half the variation was explained by factors in our analysis.PMID:37428463

Community Ment Health J. 2023 Jun 8. doi: 10.1007/s10597-023-01147-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPublic-academic partnership-based program evaluations can generate actionable evidence for policymaking, program design and implementation in improving school-based mental health service delivery. The University of Pennsylvania Center for Mental Health and public behavioral health care agencies in Philadelphia in the United States have evaluated Philadelphia's school mental health programs reimbursable through Medicaid billing since 2008. The variety of evaluations include (1) examining acute mental health service use of chi...
