New-Onset Diabetes after COVID-19
J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2023 May 19:dgad284. doi: 10.1210/clinem/dgad284. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThere is evidence suggesting that infection with SARS-CoV-2 can lead to several long-term sequelae including diabetes. This mini-review examines the rapidly evolving and conflicting literature on new-onset diabetes after COVID-19, which we term NODAC. We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, and medRxiv from inception until December 1, 2022 using both MeSH terms and free text words including "COVID-19," "SARS-CoV-2," "diabetes," "hyperglycemia," "insulin resistance," and "pancreatic β-cell." Clinical Outcomes and Vaccine Effectiveness for SARS-CoV-2 Infection in People Attending Advanced CKD Clinics: A Retrospective Provincial Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: People attending advanced CKD clinics and diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection in the first 21 months of the pandemic had high case fatality and hospitalization rates. Fatality rates were significantly lower in those who were doubly vaccinated.PMID:36795940 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000087

Background rates of adverse events of special interest for COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring in the United States, 2019-2020
CONCLUSION: AESI background rates varied by database and demographics and fluctuated in March-December 2020, but most returned to pre-pandemic levels after May 2020. It is critical to standardize demographics and consider seasonal and other trends when comparing historical rates with post-vaccination AESI rates in the same database to evaluate COVID-19 vaccine safety.PMID:36404170 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.11.003
