Canadian Immunization Guide: "Anaphylaxis and other acute reactions following vaccination" chapter update
CONCLUSION: The updated CIG chapter provides healthcare providers with further clarity in recognizing and managing anaphylaxis in community settings. The updated intramuscular epinephrine dosage table will aid in optimal epinephrine administration, while the revised guidance against the use of diphenhydramine hydrochloride will prevent its unnecessary stockpiling in preparation for potential mass vaccination clinics related to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.PMID:33447159 | PMC:PMC7799880 | DOI:10.14745/ccdr.v46i1112a04

Recurrent Immediate Hypersensitivity Reaction to Radiocontrast Media Despite Premedication Found to Be IgE-mediated
Approximately 75 million computed tomography (CT) scans are performed with radiocontrast media (RCM) annually1 and IgE-mediated immediate hypersensitivity reactions to nonionic RCM have been reported in 0.7 to 3% of patients2. Pretreatment with prednisone and diphenhydramine has significantly reduced immediate generalized reactions to RCM3. Recently, studies suggest that skin testing can support the diagnosis of an IgE-mediated reaction to RCM and can also help guide selection of an alternative RCM if subsequent RCM exposure is anticipated1,2.

Qingpeng Ointment Ameliorates Inflammatory Responses and Dysregulation of Itch-Related Molecules for Its Antipruritic Effects in Experimental Allergic Contact Dermatitis
Conclusion Via a HPLC system and a BATMAN-TCM platform, for the first time we performed detailed HPLC fingerprint analysis and network pharmacology studies of QP ointment. By in-depth animal and molecular analysis, we identified a number of chronic dermatitis-associated Th1/2 cytokines, itch mediators, and cellular signaling pathways in the skin, DRG and serum for QP to treat the inflammation and chronic itch associated with ACD. Our data clearly suggested, upon stimulation, cytokines and itch-related mediators are released from the skin and neuronal tissues, and QP could effectively work on both the skin and sensory neur...

Important warning for allergy sufferers
I love springtime. But many of my patients dread this time of year… They come to my clinic sneezing and sniffling. They have runny noses, and watery, itchy eyes. They can’t sleep or work. You may have the same problems. You need relief fast to get back to your life. So you might be tempted to pop some OTC remedies or ask your doctor for a prescription. But you may be getting more than you bargained for with those allergy drugs. They may make you lose your mind. Let me explain… Many doctors treat allergies with a class of drugs called (ACs). You know them by names like Benadryl and Dimetapp. In a new study, sci...

Fabrication of CdO/single wall carbon nanotubes modified ionic liquids carbon paste electrode as a high performance sensor in diphenhydramine analysis
We describe a novel DPHA voltammetric sensor, comprising carbon-paste electrode (CPE) modified with CdO/single wall carbon nanotubes (CdO/SWCNTs) nanocomposite and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluoro phosphate ([C4mim]-[PF6]) ionic liquid as binder. CdO/SWCNTs was synthesized by direct chemical precipitation method and characterized with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) methods. The developed voltammetric sensor displays good catalytic activity toward oxidation of DPHA, which occurs by good electrochemical conductivity of ionic liquid and nanocomposite. The suggested system detects D...
