Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Profile of a Novel Phospholipid Aspirin Formulation
Clin Pharmacokinet. 2022 Jan 20:1-15. doi: 10.1007/s40262-021-01090-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAspirin is one of the most widely used medicines. Although aspirin is commonly utilized for the treatment of several medical conditions, its broadest uptake is for the prevention of recurrent ischemic events in patients with atherosclerotic disease. Its mechanism of action of inhibiting platelet activation via blockade of thromboxane A2 production is unique and is not covered by any other antiplatelet agents. While plain, uncoated, immediate-release aspirin is used in acute settings to help assure rapid absorption, enteric-...

Posterior Circulation Ischaemic Stroke
Am J Med Sci. 2022 Jan 29:S0002-9629(22)00030-1. doi: 10.1016/j.amjms.2021.10.027. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPosterior circulation ischaemic stroke (PCIS) is a disease of high burden. They account for 20-25% of all ischaemic strokes. However, it is relatively under-researched and requires more clinical attention, since it carries worse functional outcomes. Vertigo, visual disturbances and sensory/motor disturbances are found in PCIS. Large artery atherosclerosis and embolism are main causes of PCIS, while there is growing evidence that vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia is a key association. Hypertension is the commonest r...

Medical Countermeasure Requirements to Meet NASA's Space Radiation Permissible Exposure Limits for a Mars Mission Scenario
Health Phys. 2022 May 13. doi: 10.1097/HP.0000000000001572. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe space radiation environment consists of a complex mixture of ionizing particles that pose significant health risks to crew members. NASA currently requires that an astronaut's career Risk of Exposure Induced Death (REID) for cancer mortality should not exceed 3% at the upper 95% confidence level. This career radiation limit is likely to be exceeded for even the shortest round-trip mission scenario to Mars. As such, NASA has begun to pursue more vigorously approaches to directly reduce radiation risks, despite the large uncertainti...

Low-dose aspirin in the prevention of pre-eclampsia in China: postpartum hemorrhage in subgroups of women according to their characteristics and potential bleeding risk
CONCLUSIONS: A dosage of 100 mg of aspirin per day, initiated from 12 to 20 gestational weeks until 34 weeks of gestation, did not increase the risk of potential bleeding and PPH regardless of the maternal characteristic. In the aspirin group, the positive correlation between BMI and PPH was significant.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01979627.PMID:36914957 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002545
