Who might benefit from early aspirin after coronary artery surgery?
A best evidence topic in cardiac surgery was written according to a structured protocol. The question addressed was whether early administration of aspirin might optimize vein graft patency. More than 250 papers were found using the reported search, of which 4 new papers in addition to the previous 7 represented the best evidence to answer the clinical question. The authors, journal, date and country of publication, patient group studied, study type, relevant outcomes and results of these papers are tabulated. Early postoperative aspirin administered within 6 h following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) has been show...

Outcomes of Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy in Patients Continuing Aspirin Therapy
Clinical dilemma surrounds the use of aspirin therapy during laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. Despite reduced cardiac morbidity with perioperative aspirin use, fear of bleeding-related complications often prompts discontinuation of therapy prior to surgery. We evaluate perioperative outcomes among patients continuing aspirin and those in whom treatment is stopped preoperatively.

The Safety of Continuing Antiplatelet Medication Among Elderly Patients Undergoing Urgent Hip Fracture Surgery.
This study sought to elucidate the safety of urgent hip surgery without termination of antiplatelet medication among patients taking a combination of aspirin and dipyridamole, aspirin alone, or dipyridamole alone. This retrospective cohort study included 176 patients 55 years or older who had uncomplicated hip fractures and underwent surgery within 48 hours after admission. On the basis of the preoperative medication regimen, the patients were divided into the following 4 groups: those receiving aspirin and dipyridamole combined (n=29); those receiving aspirin alone (n=63); those receiving dipyridamole alone (n=28); and th...

Detection and Prediction of Incident Alzheimer Dementia over a 10-Year or Longer Medical History: A Population-Based Study in Primary Care.
CONCLUSION: Our findings show that, in accordance with primary care records, 1% of patients aged 60 years and older have a diagnosis of AD, with an incident AD diagnosis of 0.1% per year. AD is often under-reported in primary care settings; yet, several predictors identified in this study may support general practitioners to early identify patients at risk of AD. Impact of Clinical Factors on the Achievement of Target Blood Pressure in Hypertensive Patients from Ivanovo Region of Russia: Data of 2015
ConclusionWe identified regional factors of BP control in hypertensive patients from Ivanovo region of Russia. It is shown that individual medical education (in particular, medical advices) is the most important factor of optimal BP control. The intervention with antihypertensive therapy (beta-blockers and thiazide diuretics) facilitates the achievement of target BP. Comorbidity and age reduce the frequency of achieving the target BP.

Factors Affecting Prognosis in Patients With Spontaneous Supratentorial Intracerebral Hemorrhage Under Medical and Surgical Treatment
Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a vascular brain disease that causes very high rates of death and disability. Whether surgical or medical treatment is more appropriate is controversial. The purpose of the study was to examine the morbidity and mortality rates of surgical and medical therapy and their differences in order to determine which patients should be operated. In our study, the authors selected randomly and evaluated retrospectively 49 patients who were operated in Haydarpaşa Numune Research and Education Hospital Neurosurgery Clinic and 51 patients who received medical therapy at Neurology Clinic ...

Interdisciplinary Deprescribing of Aspirin Through Prescriber Education and Provision of Patient-Specific Recommendations
CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients identified as using aspirin inappropriately fell into 3 groups: (1) patients taking 325 mg aspirin, (2) patients taking aspirin for primary prevention, and (3) patients taking aspirin concomitantly with an anticoagulant. Strategies that may lead to optimization of aspirin use include lectures and patient-specific chart reviews with pharmacist recommendation.PMID:36301649
