Antimicrobial Susceptibilities of Urinary Extended-spectrum β-lactamase < em > Escherichia coli < /em > to Fosfomycin
CONCLUSIONS: ESBL-producing E. coli is an important cause of UTI in Bahrain. Fosfomycin is a very effective oral antimicrobial that retains high efficacy against ESBL-producing E. coli, which helps decrease the need for parenteral therapy and, consequently, hospitalization.PMID:34804597 | PMC:PMC8581151 | DOI:10.5001/omj.2021.95

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 2011: Assessment of Zoonotic Risk following Diagnosis of Canine Tularemia in a Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital
. Byrne Tularemia is a rare zoonotic disease found worldwide. The agent responsible for disease, Francisella tularensis, is one of the most highly infectious pathogens known, one that is capable of causing life-threatening illness with inhalation of <50 organisms. High infectivity explains concerns of its use in bioterrorism. This case describes a 4-year-old male neutered Australian shepherd presented for evaluation of hyporexia and fever. Physical examination revealed marked enlargement of the right superficial cervical lymph node. Tularemia lymphadenitis was diagnosed by lymph node aspiration cytology and ...

Combined Training Intervention Targeting Medical and Nursing Staff Reduces Ciprofloxacin Use and Events of Urinary Tract Infection
Adv Urol. 2022 Apr 11;2022:2474242. doi: 10.1155/2022/2474242. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTInappropriate diagnosis of urinary tract infections (UTI) contributes to antimicrobial overuse. A combined training intervention for medical and nursing staff mainly addressing the analytic process reduced UTI events (9.20 vs. 7.36 per 1000 PD, -20.0%, p = 0.003) and the utilization rate of ciprofloxacin (11.6 vs. 3.5, -69.6 p = 0.001) in a Bavarian University Hospital. Combined training intervention-as part of an antibiotic stewardship program-can be effective in avoiding unnecessary urinalysis and reducing antibiotic consumption.PMID:...
