Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies Positivity and Anti-Leukotrienes in Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis: A Retrospective Monocentric Study on 134 Italian Patients
Conclusion: Despite the limitations of this retrospective study, the association between LTRAs and ANCA antibodies elucidates the mechanism by which innate immunity is directly involved in tolerance breakdown and autoantibodies production. Validation of our results with targeted studies could clarify the differences between ANCA-positive and ANCA-negative patients with important consequences on the use of some drug classes in the treatment of EGPA and asthmatic subjects.Int Arch Allergy Immunol

Inflammation, infection, and allergy of upper airways: new insights from national and real-world studies
AbstractThe upper airways (UA) should be considered as a functional unit. Current functional anatomy divides URT in three, mutually dependent, “junction boxes”: i) the ostio-meatal complex (OMC), ii) the spheno-ethmoidal recess (SER), and iii) the rhinopharynx (RP). Correct ventilation and effective mucociliary clearance of these sites significantly affect the healthy physiology of the entire respiratory system. The OMC, SER, and RP ob struction is the first pathogenic step in the inflammatory/infectious cascade of UA disorders. The inflammation of the respiratory mucosa is the main pathogenic factor for airway obstruc...

Advances in paediatrics in 2019: current practices and challenges in allergy, endocrinology, gastroenterology, public health, neonatology, nutrition, nephrology, neurology, respiratory diseases and rheumatic diseases
AbstractWe highlight the main developments that have been published during the first semester of the last year in the Italian Journal of Pediatrics. We have carefully chosen information from numerous exciting progresses issued in the Journal in the field of allergy, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatology, nutrition, nephrology, neurology, public health, respiratory diseases and rheumatic diseases. The impact on the care of patients has been placed in the broader context of studies that appeared in other journals. We think that many observations can be used directly to upgrade management of patients.
