Machine translation of standardised medical terminology using natural language processing: A scoping review
N Biotechnol. 2023 Aug 29;77:120-129. doi: 10.1016/j.nbt.2023.08.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStandardised medical terminologies are used to ensure accurate and consistent communication of information and to facilitate data exchange. Currently, many terminologies are only available in English, which hinders international research and automated processing of medical data. Natural language processing (NLP) and Machine Translation (MT) methods can be used to automatically translate these terms. This scoping review examines the research on automated translation of standardised medical terminology. A search was performed ...

PJplus - a project improving practical training during final year of medical education
CONCLUSION: Adding mentoring and feedback to the PJ helps to better prepare the students for their practical work after finishing studies. With the project presented, it is feasible to integrate these elements in a structured way. Nevertheless, for long-term success a good control of the elements' implementation and consistent training of the supervising physicians is needed.PMID:34253478 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2021.05.009

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 9579: Modelling the Effect of Age, Semester of Study and Its Interaction on Self-Reflection of Competencies in Medical Students
Conclusions: We quantified that interaction of age and semester has a significant influence on concordant self-reflection skills using a moderated regression analysis. Assumed as an indicator, we conclude that advanced and older students show less differences in pre- vs. post-pre-ratings. This has implications for curriculum development, postulating that an exposure to self-reflection as a metacognitive process should be introduced early in order to train competencies in health professionals. Prospective studies with competency-based assessments are necessary to validate findings.

The cross-sectional field "pain medicine" in medical studies at the University of Leipzig-What has been achieved? : An analysis of self-estimation of students before, during and 5 years after establishment of the cross-sectional field
CONCLUSION: Even though the results are encouraging, there is further potential for improvement in some sub-areas. For example, the students' rating regarding the question about their preparation for treating patients in pain is not yet satisfactory. Therefore, the curriculum should be developed further with a focus on competence orientation. Digital teaching formats can be integrated as well as interprofessional units and simulated patients. Additionally, the examination formats should be further developed towards standardized practical examinations.PMID:36018463 | PMC:PMC9415254 | DOI:10.1007/s00482-022-00665-7

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 11098: Mental Stress in Medical Students during the Pandemic and Their Relation to Digital and Hybrid Semester & mdash;Cross-Sectional Data from Three Recruitment Waves in Germany
Conclusions: The lockdowns affected students in more ways than simply their teaching formats. Students require individual support to adjust to difficult situations, and particularly medical students in their preclinical phase compared to students in their clinical phases. These are challenges for the medical education system, which must find ways to be prepared for future times of crisis and insecurity.

Teaching in radiation oncology: now and 2025 —results of a focus group with medical students
ConclusionResults of the needs analysis for the subject of RT are consistent with ÄApprO, NKLM, and DEGRO. Moreover, they complement them and should be considered in the curriculum development of Masterplan Medical Education 2020 (Masterplan Medizinstudium 2020). The results contribute to high-quality and target-group-oriented medical training in the subject of RT, increased vis ibility, and thus early bonding of future physicians to RO in Germany.
