Predictive value of left atrial strain in relation to atrial fibrillation following acute myocardial infarction
This study aimed to determine the prognostic value of left atrial (LA) strain, obtained by speckle tracking echocardiography (STE), in predicting incident AF outcomes following STEMI treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI).Methods and results:This prospective study comprised of 392 STEMI patients treated with pPCI.

Comparative effectiveness and safety of different combinations of antithrombotic regimens in atrial fibrillation patients with stent insertions
This study aims to compare the risks of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), including cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack, and major bleeding across different antithrombotic regimens in Asian atrial fibrillation (AF) patients with stent insertions. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database and National Mortality Registry. A total of 10,208 nonvalvular AF patients who had undergone percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with stents for the first time in 2007-2017 were identified. Most patients (68.4%) were p...

Rivaroxaban Underdose for Atrial Fibrillation with Stable Coronary Disease: The AFIRE Trial Findings
CONCLUSION: In patients with AF, stable CAD, and preserved renal function, rivaroxaban underdose was associated with similar rates of thrombotic events but a lower incidence of hemorrhagic events than the standard dose.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: AFIRE UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (https://www.umin.ac.jp/ctr/), number UMIN000016612, and ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT02642419.PMID:35697255 | DOI:10.1055/s-0042-1744543

A rare cause of abdominal pain managed unconventionally: acute renal infarction caused by atrial fibrillation: a case report
ConclusionsAcute renal infarction from thromboembolism is a rare but serious complication of arterial fibrillation. More efficient and different options for intervention methods will benefit the treatment of this disease. Here, we report a combination therapeutic method that has not been used in acute renal infarction associated with arterial fibrillation, and which restored renal perfusion and prevented long-term kidney injury.

Combined use of the GRACE ACS risk score and comorbidity indices to increase the effectiveness of hospital mortality risk assessment in patients with acute coronary syndrome
CONCLUSION: CCI and its own comorbidity model, but not CDS and CIRS, are associated with the risk of hospital mortality. The model for assessing comorbidity on a 9-point scale, but not CCI, CDS and CIRS, can significantly improve the predictive value of the GRACE scale.PMID:36286937 | DOI:10.26442/00403660.2022.07.201742

Rivaroxaban Monotherapy is Preferable to Combination Therapy with Antiplatelets with Regards to Total Cardiovascular and Bleeding Events in Patients with AF and Stable CAD
In this study conducted across 294 centers, 2,215 patients were randomly assigned to rivaroxaban monotherapy, or therapy with rivaroxaban in combination with aspirin or a P2Y12 inhibitor. All patients were diagnosed with AF with a CHADS2 score greater than one, as well as confirmed CAD without percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting within 12 months. Primary endpoints were the total number of first and subsequent bleeding and thrombotic events over a 24-month follow-up period. Thrombotic events included ischemic stroke, systemic embolism, myocardial infarction, and unstable angina requir...

Therapeutic effect of antithrombotic drug combinations in patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention for coronary heart disease: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: DAT with NOACs has a higher safety profile against bleeding in patients with atrial fibrillation after PCI. DAT with VKAs was similar to TAT in terms of antithrombotic effect and incidence of bleeding.PMID:36628223 | PMC:PMC9827321
