Detection of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in 994 patients with a cerebrovascular event by intermittent 21-day ECG-monitoring and 7-day continuous Holter-recording
CONCLUSIONS: The two screening approaches had a similar yield of arrhythmia, in spite of the group with intermittent monitoring having a more favorable clinical profile. A positive screening was highly predictive of AF in ECG during the follow-up.PMID:35722185 | PMC:PMC9169544 | DOI:10.48101/ujms.v127.8318

Prognostic importance of atrial fibrillation in asymptomatic aortic stenosis: The Simvastatin and Ezetimibe in Aortic Stenosis study
Conclusion: Rate of AF is moderate in asymptomatic AS. Longstanding but not episodic AF was, independently predictive of increased risk of heart failure and non-hemorrhagic stroke. New-onset AF was associated with cardiac decompensation.

Performance of an External Transtelephonic Loop Recorder for Automated Detection of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation
ConclusionsIn this ELR validation study, the dedicated AF detection algorithm showed to be highly sensitive but not specific for AF. Applicability of an ELR might be limited for efficacious detection of AF, as manual verification is mandatory for a vast amount of recordings.

Prognostic Usefulness of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy by Electrocardiography in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation (from the Randomized Evaluation of Long-Term Anticoagulant Therapy Study)
It is unknown whether left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) diagnosis by electrocardiography improves risk stratification in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). We investigated the prognostic impact of LVH diagnosis by electrocardiography in a large sample of anticoagulated patients with AF included in the Randomized Evaluation of Long-Term Anticoagulant Therapy (RE-LY) Study. We defined electrographic LVH (ECG-LVH) by strain pattern or Cornell voltage (R wave in aVL plus S wave in V3)>2.0 mV (women) or>2.4 mV (men). LVH prevalence was 22.7%. During a median follow-up of 2.0 years, 303 patients developed a stroke, 778 d...

Management of Patients With Atrial Fibrillation by Primary‐Care Physicians in Germany: 1‐Year Results of the ATRIUM Registry
ConclusionsIn this unselected group of patients with long‐standing AF managed in primary care, hospitalizations and cardiovascular complications including strokes are frequent, illustrating the need to improve management of AF patients.

Prevalence of Atrial Fibrillation in Patients with High CHADS2‐ and CHA2DS2VASc‐Scores: Anticoagulate or Monitor High‐Risk Patients?
ConclusionThe prevalence of AF increases with increasing CHADS2‐ and CHA2DS2VASc‐score. In intermediate scores intensified monitoring may be recommended. In high scores, thromboembolic complications occurred irrespective of the presence of AF and anticoagulant therapy may be initiated irrespective of documented AF.

Is Isolated Aphasia Associated with Atrial Fibrillation A Prospective Study
Conclusions: A statistically significant relation between isolated aphasia and AF could not be established in this study. However, our results showed a tendency towards significance. Further studies, in which rhythm is observed for a longer period of time, may be required to confirm this hypothesis.Cerebrovasc Dis Extra 2014;4:165-173

Telemonitoring for arrhythmias on rural outpatients: Feasibility and results on 167 patients
Conclusion A long-term single-lead monitoring in detection of arrhythmia events on referred patients for ECG ambulatory monitoring is a simple method. The quality of life of rural population and retired people who require medical attention without moving could be significantly improved in term of diagnosis, treatment and drug prescriptions to prevent stroke.

Identifying postoperative atrial fibrillation in cardiac surgical patients posthospital discharge, using iPhone ECG: a study protocol
This study determines feasibility and impact of a self-surveillance programme to identify recurrence of postoperative AF in the month of posthospital discharge. Methods and analysis This is a feasibility study, using a cross-sectional study design, of self-screening for AF using a hand-held single-lead iPhone electrocardiograph device (iECG). Participants will be recruited from the cardiothoracic surgery wards of the Royal North Shore Hospital and North Shore Private Hospital, Sydney, Australia. Cardiac surgery patients admitted in sinus rhythm and experiencing a transient episode of postoperative AF will be eligible for ...
