Clinical Outcomes of Off-Label Underdosing of Direct Oral Anticoagulants After Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation.
In conclusion, the clinical adverse event rates for patients on an off-label under-dose DOAC regimen after ablation, predicated on careful patient evaluations, was not high as seen with that of patients on a standard DOAC dosing regimen. PMID: 33191353 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A Comparative Prospective Observational Study on the Use of Direct Oral Anticoagulants after Cardiac Surgery for the Management of Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: DOAC as anticoagulation therapy for the early intervention of POAF following cardiac surgery is associated with a low incidence of major bleeding; a favorable safety profile and excellent efficacy were demonstrated for DOAC. Furthermore, our results indicate that the safety and efficacy of apixaban and edoxaban are better than rivaroxaban. PMID: 33208579 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of Frailty on Bleeding Events Related to Anticoagulation Therapy in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: Frailty is associated with increased bleeding events related to anticoagulant therapy in patients previously hospitalized with AF. Greater care should be taken with patients with a CHS frailty index ≥2. PMID: 33504742 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Metabolically Healthy Obesity and the Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in the General Population - Analysis of a Nationwide Epidemiological Database.
CONCLUSIONS: Among individuals with no metabolic disorders, MHO alone did not significantly increase the subsequent CVD risk. However, individuals with comorbid MHO and abdominal obesity had a higher risk of myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation, suggesting the prognostic importance of abdominal obesity in subjects with MHO. Major adverse cardiovascular events and mortality after catheter ablation in Japanese patients with atrial fibrillation: The Fushimi AF Registry
ConclusionCA was associated with lower incidences of MACE and all-cause mortality for patients with AF as compared with those who received drug therapy. The most common event of MACE in patients who underwent CA was heart failure hospitalization.Clinical trial registrationURL:http://www.umin.ac.jp/ctr/index.htmUnique identifierUMIN000005834.

Serum High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein Levels and the Development of Atrial Fibrillation in a General Japanese Population - The Hisayama Study.
CONCLUSIONS: The study findings suggest that elevated serum hs-CRP levels are an independent risk factor for the development of AF in a general Japanese population. PMID: 33597325 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Current status of oral anticoagulant adherence in Japanese patients with atrial fibrillation: A claims database analysis
CONCLUSION: In a real-world Japanese claim data analysis, about 70% of patients under DOAC showed persistence with anticoagulation therapy at 3 years. High adherence to DOACs assessed by PDC (over 90%) persisted to 3 years regardless of the types of DOACs.PMID:33663881 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2021.02.007

Different Determinants of the Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation and Adverse Clinical Events in the Mid-Term Period After Atrial Fibrillation Ablation
CONCLUSIONS: This study disclosed different determinants of post-ablation recurrence and AEs. Female sex, persistent AF, and enlarged LAd were determinants of post-ablation recurrence, whereas an old age, comorbidities, and LV and renal dysfunction rather than post-ablation recurrence were AEs determinants. These findings will help determine ablation indications and post-ablation management.PMID:34219078 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-21-0326

Clinical significance of new ‐onset atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsIn our HCM registry in an aged Japanese community, a significant proportion developed AF. The presence of AF, particularly new-onset AF, was associated with increased incidence of HCM-related events. AF may not be just a marker of disease stage but an important trigger of adverse events.

Characteristics and clinical outcomes in atrial fibrillation patients classified using cluster analysis: the Fushimi AF Registry
ConclusionsWe identified six clinically relevant phenotypes of AF patients on cluster analysis. These phenotypes can be associated with various types of comorbidities and associated with the incidence of clinical outcomes.Clinical Trial Registration Informationhttps://www.umin.ac.jp/ctr/index.htm.
