Stroke in ATTR cardiac amyloidosis: Does only rhythm matter?
Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) is frequently associated with cardiac involvement in the wild type form (wtATTR) as well as in the mutated form (variant ATTR, vATTR). Although left ventricular (LV) pseudohypertrophy is currently considered the most relevant structural abnormality in cardiac amyloidosis (CA), atrial involvement due to both amyloid infiltration and secondary to LV overload and remodeling, is another key feature and a major determinant of decompensation, especially when associated with atrial arrhythmias [1].

Prediction of incident atrial fibrillation in community-based electronic health records: a systematic review with meta-analysis
Conclusions Models externally validated for prediction of incident AF in community-based EHR demonstrate moderate predictive ability and high risk of bias. Novel methods may provide stronger discriminative performance. Systematic review registration PROSPERO CRD42021245093.

Cardiovascular remodeling in obstructive sleep apnea: focus on arterial stiffness, left ventricular geometry and atrial fibrillation
We present an overview of the definition, prevalence, and risk factors of OSA and outline the association between OSA and cardiovascular complications. We then briefly discuss echocardiographic assessment in OSA with focus on the left atrium and LV. Finally, we highlight the importance of adherence to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy with regard to reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.EXPERT COMMENTARY: Although OSA has a strong association with cardiovascular complications, it is often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Patients with resistant hypertension and atrial fibrillation with poor therapeut...

Stroke in Chagas disease: from pathophysiology to clinical practice
Rev Soc Bras Med Trop. 2022 Jun 6;55:e0575. doi: 10.1590/0037-8682-0575-2021. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTDespite substantial progress toward its control, Chagas disease continues to be a major public health problem in Latin America and has become a global health concern. The disease affects approximately 6 million people, of whom 20-40% will develop cardiomyopathy over the years after the initial Trypanosoma cruzi infection. Chagas cardiomyopathy is the most serious and frequent manifestation of Chagas disease. Clinical manifestations vary widely according to the severity of myocardial dysfunction, ranging from asymptomatic ...

Impact of SARS ‐Cov‐2 infection in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: results of an international multicentre registry
ConclusionsOver one-fourth of HCM patients infected with SARS-Cov-2 required hospitalization, including 6% in an ICU setting. Age and cardiac features related to HCM, including baseline functional class, left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, and systolic impairment, conveyed increased risk of mortality.
