Efficacy and Safety of Anticoagulants for COVID-19 Patients in the Intensive Care Unit: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results, anticoagulants can mitigate mortality rate and VTE in COVID-19 patients.PMID:36103940 | DOI:10.18433/jpps32723

Role of Trans-Arterial Chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: TACE is a low-cost palliative treatment for HCC. The initial tumor size is an independent predictor of survival.PMID:36196724 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202209_29776

Dilemmas Related to Direct-Acting Oral Anticoagulant Administration in Patients With Extreme Obesity
CONCLUSIONS: Dosing alterations of DOACs do not appear to be necessary when used for either prophylaxis or treatment in patients with BMIs up to approximately 45 to 50 kg/m2, but research is needed for BMIs >50 kg/m2.PMID:36258660 | DOI:10.1177/10600280221130456

Meta-analyses of sulodexide and other drugs in prevention and treatment of post-thrombotic syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: In prevention of PTS, sulodexide and rivaroxaban showed a low incidence and reduced risk of PTS respectively, while in PTS treatment, sulodexide was significantly effective in the complete ulcers healing. These results confirm the need to move from the traditional single-pillar approach with elastic compression stockings to a more effective multi-pillar approach, tailoring the treatment to each individual patient.PMID:36591846 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202212_30688

Risk of thromboembolism in patients with COVID-19 who are using hormonal contraception
CONCLUSIONS: There are no comparative studies assessing risk of thromboembolism in COVID-19 patients who use hormonal contraception, which was the primary objective of this review. Very little evidence exists examining the risk of increased COVID-19 disease severity for combined hormonal contraception users compared to non-users of hormonal contraception, and the evidence that does exist is of very low certainty. The odds of hospitalization for COVID-19 positive users of combined hormonal contraceptives may be slightly decreased compared with those of hormonal contraceptive non-users, but the evidence is very uncertain as ...

Tranexamic acid for the reduction of bleeding during functional endoscopic sinus surgery
CONCLUSIONS: There is moderate-certainty evidence to support the beneficial value of topical or intravenous tranexamic acid during endoscopic sinus surgery with respect to surgical field bleeding score. Low- to moderate-certainty evidence suggests a slight decrease in total blood loss during surgery and duration of surgery. Whilst there is moderate-certainty evidence that tranexamic acid does not lead to more immediate significant adverse events compared to placebo, there is no evidence regarding the risk of serious adverse events more than 24 hours after surgery. There is low-certainty evidence that tranexamic acid may no...

The Association Between Antioxidants and COVID-19 Outcomes: a Systematic Review on Observational Studies
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Feb 25. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03588-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt is proven that the blood concentration of antioxidants can impress the severity of viral infections, including COVID-19. However, the lack of a comprehensive study accumulating existing data regarding COVID-19 can be perceived. Therefore, this systematic review is aimed to report the association between the blood concentration of several antioxidants and the overall health condition of COVID-19 patients. We summarized the available data surrounding the serum antioxidant level in COVID-19 patients and COVID-19 outcomes. A sys...
