Carotid interposition in patients with head and neck tumors: clinical experience of 13 cases reconstructed with a great saphenous vein autograft
CONCLUSION AND SIGNIFICANCE: CIG in HNC setting can achieve oncologic-control with an acceptable rate of complications. Routine shunting, heparinization, and elevating blood-pressure during closure seem to be safe protocols to maintain cerebral-circulation perioperatively. A moderate graft-blowout risk should be considered.PMID:35499961 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2022.2067356

Video-Oculography to Guide Neuroimaging for Dizziness and Vertigo
Dizziness and vertigo are among the most common presenting symptoms in both the emergency department (ED) and ambulatory outpatient clinics, with recent estimates suggesting roughly 18 million visits per year in the US (nearly 5 million to EDs and>13 million to outpatient clinics). These symptoms are caused by a wide array of conditions, but the most common benign causes are otologic, and the most common dangerous cause is stroke. Stroke accounts for 3% to 5% of dizziness presentations in the ED, and some evidence suggests that it may account for a similar percentage of dizziness presentations in ambulatory care clinics...

The association between obstructive sleep apnea and stroke in sickle-cell disease children
ConclusionPatients who had OSA had a higher prevalence of stroke compared to non-OSA patients by 16% with almost three times higher odds. The difference was statistically significant in bivariant but not multivariant analysis. The rate of hospitalization, emergency visit, and blood transfusion were not affected by OSA status. Screening for OSA in high-risk patients such as SCD children and early management could prevent the risk of SCD complications.

Hand Motion Analysis Illustrates Differences When Drilling Cadaveric and Printed Temporal Bone
CONCLUSIONS: Significant differences in hand motions were present between simulations, however the significance is unclear. This may indicate that printed bone is not best positioned to be the principal training schema.PMID:34872376 | DOI:10.1177/00034894211059310
