Relationships between endogenous and exogenous testosterone and cardiovascular disease in men
Rev Endocr Metab Disord. 2022 Oct 11. doi: 10.1007/s11154-022-09752-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this narrative review, we discuss the evidence about the controversy about the cardiovascular effects of endogenous and exogenous testosterone in men. Prospective cohort studies with follow-up of ~5-15 years generally indicate no association or a possible inverse relationship between serum endogenous testosterone concentrations and composite major cardiovascular events, cardiovascular deaths and overall mortality. Pharmacoepidemiological studies of large databases generally show no association between testosterone therap...

Clinical features of moyamoya disease with Graves' disease: a retrospective study of 394,422 patients with thyroid disease
This study aimed to clarify the characteristics of MMD in patients with Graves' disease. This was a single-center, retrospective study. The prevalence and clinical features of MMD patients among all patients with thyroid disease who visited Ito hospital from January 2005 to December 2019 were evaluated. The relationship between MMD and hyperthyroidism was analyzed in new-onset Graves' disease patients during the same period. Of all 394,422 patients with thyroid disease, 88,180 had Graves' disease, and 40 had MMD with Graves' disease, i.e., the prevalence was 45.36 per 100,000 patients with Graves' disease (0.0454%). The me...

Effects of perioperative glycemic indicators on outcomes of endovascular treatment for vertebrobasilar artery occlusion
ConclusionsAdmission hyperglycemia, FBG, SHR and short-term GV in VBAO patients treated with EVT were associated with adverse outcomes. The results suggested that comprehensive evaluation and appropriate management of perioperative glucose might be important for patients with VBAO and treatment with EVT.

Diabetes and cardiovascular risk according to gender: an overview of epidemiological data from the early Framingham reports to the cardiovascular outcomes trials
Ann Endocrinol (Paris). 2022 Sep 29:S0003-4266(22)00839-3. doi: 10.1016/j.ando.2022.09.023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMale gender is a major cardiovascular risk factor in the general population, with men showing higher age-adjusted prevalence of cardiovascular disease than women. Diabetes, another major cardiovascular risk factor, affects cardiovascular risk differentially between men and women. Data from prospective observational studies showed that women with diabetes had greater relative risk of cardiovascular events than men with diabetes, leading to a smaller difference between diabetic men and women than between ...

Association between diabetes mellitus and post ‐stroke cognitive impairment
PSD and PSCI impose heavy burdens on patients, families, and society. However, cognitive function after stroke is dynamic and dysfunction is often overlooked. Impaired fasting glucose, prediabetes, type 2 DM, hypoglycemia, and glycemic variability may lead to cognitive dysfunction after stroke via various mechanisms and pathways. There is emerging evidence regarding the association between different DM medications and cognitive functions. However, their relationship with the PSCI/PSD warrants further investigation. AbstractStroke survivors suffer from various physical, emotional, and cognitive impairments. These changes ar...
