Biased online media coverage: chiropractic and stroke in google news
ConclusionsThe chiropractic profession is concerned about the biased media coverage of the unverified causal relation between chiropractic treatment and stroke. However, our data show that there are very few relevant media texts online within the timeframe of this study, and the majority of them appear after the first page ofGoogle News SERP. But, most texts present a negative tone or connotation, and a lot of links to online and social media embedded in these texts extend their traffic and reach.

Effects of dry needling on post-stroke spasticity, motor function and stability limits: a randomised clinical trial.
CONCLUSIONS: The inclusion of deep dry needling into a treatment session following the Bobath concept was effective at decreasing spasticity and improving balance, range of motion and the accuracy of maintaining stability in patients who had experienced a stroke. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT02579291. PMID: 29986902 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A randomized controlled trial comparing electroacupuncture with manual acupuncture for motor function recovery after ischemic stroke
ConclusionThe results suggest that electroacupuncture can be beneficial and have a superior effect in the recovery of motor function for patients with cerebral ischemic stroke, by increasing the levels of VEGF in the peripheral blood serum, cerebral blood flow and cerebral blood volume, compared with the acupuncture (needling alone).

Baihui Point Laser Acupuncture Ameliorates Cognitive Impairment, Motor Deficit, and Neuronal Loss Partly via Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Effects in an Animal Model of Focal Ischemic Stroke.
In conclusion, Baihui point laser acupuncture alleviates cognitive impairment and motor deficits via antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in focal ischemic rats. Further study is warranted to investigate other possible mechanisms of action. PMID: 30915140 [PubMed]

Post-needling soreness and trigger point dry needling for hemiplegic shoulder pain following stroke.
CONCLUSION: This trial found that 50% of stroke patients receiving DN experienced post-needling induced pain, a side effect that almost disappeared 72 h after the intervention without any additional therapeutic action. In addition, the inclusion of TrP-DN into a rehabilitation session was effective at decreasing shoulder pain in these patients. PMID: 32009422 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effects of acupuncture treatment on motor function in patients with subacute hemorrhagic stroke: A randomized controlled study.
CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture may promote the motor function recovery of hemorrhagic stroke patients in subacute phase mainly by enhancing the lower limb ability. It probably diminishes the compensation strategies earlier to correct the abnormal gait pattern. Although this adjustment may result in a compromise in the improvement of gait velocity temporarily, patients would benefit from it in a long run. PMID: 32147082 [PubMed - in process]

The Prognostic Value of Traditional Chinese Medicine Symptoms in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Pilot Study.
Conclusions: The combination of 10 TCM symptoms, once onset occurred, including hemiplegia, restlessness, hemianesthesia, short breath, headache, constipation, night sweat, tinnitus, thirsty, and gurgling with sputum, may affect the recovery of motor dysfunction. Furthermore, the improvements of TCM symptoms dynamically after treatment would be observed in a large prospective cohort. This trial is registered with NCT01806233. PMID: 32733577 [PubMed]

Earlier Acupuncture Enhancing Long-Term Effects on Motor Dysfunction in Acute Ischemic Stroke: Retrospective Cohort Study.
Abstract Stroke is the leading fatal disease in China. This retrospective study aimed to explore the optimal acupuncture intervention time for long-term efficacy on motor dysfunction in patients suffering from acute ischemic stroke through 1-year of follow-up. Three hundred and nine patients collected at Longhua Hospital from January 2016 to December 2017 were classified into 3 groups based on the acupuncture intervention time, including groups A (within 2 days), B (within 3-7 days) and C (within 8-14 days). All patients had received standard treatment combined with acupuncture therapy. Specifically, acupuncture w...
