Work-related musculoskeletal disorders and  related risk factors among bakers: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: WRMSDs for bakery workers have been less studied than other occupational diseases. Our systematic review found several significant relations between the factors influencing the prevalence of MSDs. This study also showed the comparison of traditional and modern cooking systems with diseases of the upper limbs, shoulders, and back pain as possible fields for future research.PMID:37718825 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-220165

Efficacy of a gluten-free diet in reducing the widespread pain index and symptom severity scale in patients affected by fibromyalgia
CONCLUSIONS: A GFD improved FM symptoms evaluated with WPI and SS. This was confirmed for the first time, also with a rechallenge of the GFD that followed a non-restricted gluten-containing diet.PMID:37721353 | DOI:10.4081/reumatismo.2023.1530

Oxidative stress may be a contributing factor in fibromyalgia patients' pain mechanisms
CONCLUSIONS: Reactive oxygen species have several negative impacts on the human body. As a result of the measurements we analyzed, the relationship between FM and oxidative stress should be studied in terms of disease progression and may help improve the treatment process.PMID:37721351 | DOI:10.4081/reumatismo.2023.1550

Vasculitis associated with adenosine deaminase 2 deficiency: at the crossroads between Beh çet's disease and autoinflammation. A viewpoint
Reumatismo. 2023 Sep 18;75(3). doi: 10.4081/reumatismo.2023.1578.ABSTRACTAdenosine deaminase 2 deficiency (DADA2) is a rare monogenic vasculopathy caused by loss-of-function homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in ADA2, formerly CECR1 (cat eye syndrome chromosome region 1) gene. The DADA2 phenotype is widely heterogeneous, and patients may present with fever, weight loss, livedo reticularis/racemosa, digital ischemia, cutaneous ulceration, peripheral neuropathy, abdominal pain, bowel perforation, and portal or nephrogenic hypertension. More specific manifestations include early-onset ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke...

Adrenal hemorrhage and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction: an antiphospholipid syndrome dilemma
Reumatismo. 2023 Sep 18;75(3). doi: 10.4081/reumatismo.2023.1584.ABSTRACTAntiphospholipid syndrome (APS) can affect different organ systems, including the heart and adrenal glands. Despite being known for its prothrombotic characteristics, APS can have serious bleeding complications. Occasionally, thrombotic and bleeding episodes can present simultaneously in an APS patient. Whenever these events co-occur, resuming anticoagulation becomes a topic of debate. As such, we present the case of a 43-year-old male with triple positive antiphospholipid antibodies, indicating APS, who presented with chest pain. Anticoagulants were ...

The Relationship between Pain Catastrophizing and Cognitive Function in Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSION: Although evidence exists for the relationship between cognitive function and PC, there is a lack of rigorous research to indicate the strength of this relationship and the specific cognitive functions affected. The literature lacks appropriate populations needed to investigate clinically relevant PC and is limited by heterogeneous neuropsychological test batteries. Future research should include populations demonstrating the behaviors being studied, intentional analysis of outcomes, and appropriate cognitive tests.PMID:37719894 | PMC:PMC10505081 | DOI:10.1155/2023/5851450

Effects of breathing exercises on chronic low back pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSION: Breathing exercises can reduce pain, assist people with lumbar disabilities, and improve pulmonary function, and could be considered as a potential alternative treatment for CLBP.PMID:37718775 | DOI:10.3233/BMR-230054

Association of pain neurophysiology knowledge and application amongst UK chiropractic students: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Chiropractic placement students in the United Kingdom appear to have a lower level of pain knowledge than other health care professionals and education institutions may wish to consider how to best address this within their curricula.PMID:37721388 | DOI:10.7899/JCE-22-27

Melatonin as preemptive analgesic for intraoperative pain
This study evaluates the efficacy of using melatonin and ketorolac for pain prevention during open-flap debridement surgery. This prospective randomized controlled trial was performed in patients who presented with chronic periodontitis after non-surgical periodontal therapy, requiring flap surgery. Group 1: Flap surgery following non-surgical periodontal therapy after one month with no oral administration of analgesic. Group 2: Flap surgery following non-surgical periodontal therapy after one month with oral administration of Ketorolac 400mg one hour prior to the surgery. Group 3: Flap surgery following non-surgical perio...

Integration of palliative care in the management of oral squamous cell carcinoma
Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 31;19(1):1-4. doi: 10.6026/97320630019001. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTOral Squamous cell Cancers (OSCC) is strongly associated with tobacco consumption. We here in present a case study of a OSCC patient who refused standard oncological care (SOC), to highlight the importance of integrating palliative care (PC) for improved patient outcomes. A 61 years male patient, with history of chewing tobacco for more than 20 years and diagnosed to have OSCC for 1.5 years presented with severe anaemia and a cauliflower-like growth (12 x 10 cm) in the left oral cavity and cheek with greenish-yellow discharge. Pus ...

Effectiveness and Safety of Eliglustat Treatment in Gaucher Disease: Real-Life Unicentric Experience
In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness and safety of eliglustat in a cohort of 12 patients with GD followed up in our center, reporting a reduction in both chitotriosidase (394.3 vs 181.1 nmol/h/mL, P = 0.027) and glucosylsphingosine values (45.1 vs 18.9 ng/mL, P <0.001) after at least 12 months of therapy compared with baseline, regardless of patient demographic characteristics and GD characteristics.FINDINGS: There were no drug-related serious adverse effects and no drug-related cardiac events. Most adverse events were mild and transient, mainly dyspepsia and abdominal pain. Of interest, we reported an absence ...

High-Sensitivity Cardiac Troponin Assays: Ready for Prime Time!
Annu Rev Med. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1146/annurev-med-051022-113931. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRapid and accurate triage of patients presenting with chest pain to an emergency department (ED) is critical to prevent ED overcrowding and unnecessary resource use in individuals at low risk of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and to efficiently and effectively guide patients at high risk to definite therapy. The use of biomarkers for rule-out or rule-in of suspected AMI has evolved substantially over the last several decades. Previously well-established biomarkers have been replaced by cardiac troponin (cTn). High-sensitivit...
