Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in cancer: Limitations and prospects
Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Basis Dis. 2023 Sep 4:166875. doi: 10.1016/j.bbadis.2023.166875. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) have long been considered to solely mediate neurotransmission. However, their widespread distribution in the human body suggests a more diverse physiological role. Additionally, the expression of nAChRs is increased in certain cancers, such as lung cancer, and has been associated with cell proliferation, epithelial-to-mesenchymal cell transition, angiogenesis and apoptosis prevention. Several compounds that interact with these receptors have been identified as po...

Sexual dysfunction prevalence, risk factors, and help-seeking behavior in opioid agonist treatment and general psychiatry: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: SD are common among psychiatric patients receiving OAT and general psychiatric patients seeking psychotherapy. Professionals providing mental healthcare to patients must emphasize prevention and routine assessments of sexual functioning needs.PMID:37608998 | PMC:PMC10440384 | DOI:10.3389/fpsyt.2023.1204236

The influence of pain-related comorbidities on pain intensity and pain-related psychological distress in patients presenting with musculoskeletal pain
CONCLUSIONS: Depression was associated with greater pain intensity. No comorbidities were able to account for the extent of pain-related psychological distress.PMID:37611373 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjpt.2023.100532

A systematic review and meta-analysis of non-pharmacological methods to manipulate experimentally induced secondary hypersensitivity
We described the effects of several non-pharmacological manipulations on experimentally induced secondary hypersensitivity in humans. By shedding light on the potential for non-pharmacological therapies to influence secondary hypersensitivity, it opens a line of inquiry towards development and testing of targeted strategies for managing secondary hypersensitivity.PMID:37356604 | DOI:10.1016/j.jpain.2023.06.013
