Risk of gallstones in patients with obstructive sleep apnea: a nationwide observational cohort study
ConclusionThe study shows a strong association between OSA and gallstones. Moreover, our findings suggest the requirement for survey and health education for gallstones in OSA and further studies to verify whether the treatment of OSA can reduce the risk of gallstones.

Association between insomnia and type 2 diabetes mellitus in Han Chinese individuals in Shandong Province, China
ConclusionsThis study suggests that insomnia is independently and significantly associated with diabetes mellitus in the northern Chinese population, especially in the 40 –59-year-old age group and in males.

Obstructive sleep apnoea and exercise functional capacity: time to move?
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is defined by repetitive episodes of obstructive respiratory events, characterised by marked reduction (hypopnoea) or cessation of respiration (apnoea) due to upper airway obstruction during sleep. Each respiratory event leads to episodes of asphyxia and progressive but futile generation of excessive negative intrathoracic pressure. The patient is typically self-rescued by an arousal from sleep that leads to opening of the airway and resumption of breathing [1]. OSA is common in the general population across the whole human life span from infants to the elderly [2]. There is good evidence bui...

Early Pulmonary Vascular Disease in Young Adults Born Preterm.
CONCLUSION: Young adults born preterm demonstrate early pulmonary vascular disease, characterized by elevated pulmonary pressures, a stiffer pulmonary vascular bed, and right ventricular dysfunction, consistent with an increased risk of developing pulmonary hypertension. Clinical and hemodynamic correlates of pulmonary arterial stiffness in incident, untreated patients with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension.
CONCLUSIONS: In incident idiopathic PAH, PA stiffness was related to mPAP and heart rate, and this outperformed the potential influences of age and gender. Baseline PA stiffness did not independently predict outcome. The great dispersion of RC-time implied that PVR and PA stiffness were differently affected by the disease process. Con: continuous positive airway pressure and cardiovascular prevention
For the last two decades, evidence has been mounting that obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) may be a cause of cardiovascular disease (CVD). OSA causes repeated acute falls in nocturnal arterial blood oxygen saturation, and rises in blood pressure and heart rate. These physiological changes, combined with the acute mechanical stress placed on the heart from the often very large negative pleural pressure swings during obstructed breathing, were postulated to provide the substrate necessary to induce acute events such as myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, acute heart failure, stroke and sudden cardiovascular death. Observationa...

Blood Biomarkers as Predictors of Long ‐Term Mortality in COPD
Conclusion: high CRP and neutrophils as well as low eosinophils are predictive of poor COPD prognosis. They also add significant value to prediction models of mortality in COPD. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Long-term outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a 13-year nationwide cohort study
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with increased risk of coronary atherosclerosis. However, its impact on the long-term outcomes in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has not been described. Using the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, we identified 215275 adult patients who underwent first-time PCI between 2000 and 2012. Among them, the outcomes of patients with COPD (n = 24900) and without COPD (n = 190375) were compared. Baseline demographics and 13-year overall mortality and adverse cardiac outcomes after PCI (i.e., ischemic events, repeat revascula...

Left ventricular strain and dyssynchrony by CMR Feature tracking in Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension(IPAH)
Conclusion: Impaired LV longitudinal strain and intraventricular dyssynchrony appear in IPAH. In the setting of impaired longitudinal function, LVEF is maintained by circumferential contraction. In IPAH with impaired LVEF, circumferential strain is impaired in addition to longitudinal strain.

Prognostic value of hemodynamics following treatment initiation in pulmonary arterial hypertension
Conclusions: Stroke volume index and right atrial pressure at first follow-up catheterization were the best hemodynamic predictors of death or transplantation. These variables should be further validated as treatment targets in a prospective study.
