Stroke and transient ischemic attacks related to antiplatelet or warfarin interruption
Conclusion Antiplatelet or vitamin K antagonist suspension has a temporal relationship with the occurrence of stroke and TIA. Since these events are preventable, it is crucial that healthcare professionals convince their patients that drug withdrawal can cause serious consequences.RESUMO Pacientes em terapia anticoagulante ou antiagregante plaquet ária frequentemente são solicitados a descontinuar essas medicações antes e durante procedimentos cirúrgicos ou invasivos. Functional outcomes among stroke patients in Alagoas, Brazil: observational study
CONCLUSION: We found a FD rate four times greater than in another Brazilian study. Lower stroke severity and fewer depressive symptoms were associated with achieving functional independence. Less than half of the patients were referred to a rehabilitation service at hospital discharge and few had access to multidisciplinary treatment.PMID:33729419 | DOI:10.1590/1516-3180.2020.0304.R2.10122020

Fatal stroke after Bothrops snakebite in the Amazonas state, Brazil: A case report.
Abstract Bothrops atrox is the snake responsible for the majority of snakebites in the Brazilian Amazon. Patients generally evolve to local manifestations such as edema, pain and ecchymoses. Systemic effects of B. atrox venom are usually restricted to blood incoagulability and spontaneous bleeding. However, in a few cases, bleeding in the central nervous system may occur, which can lead to sequels and deaths. Here, we report a case of a 59 year-old woman who presented edema, pain and ecchymoses on the right foot, headache, nausea, diarrhea, hypertension and blood incoagulability after the bite by Bothrops snake in...

Statistical association of rs2243250 polymorphism of IL4 gene and hemorrhagic stroke in Brazilian population
This study analyzed if the variation between TT genotype and the other genotypes (CT and CC), in -589 (rs2243250) polymorphism of IL4 gene, has association with the prognosis of hemorrhagic stroke (HS) and with clinical aspects which are risk factors for cerebrovascular diseases. The result of this study shows that there is no statistical association of the IL4 polymorphism with either prognosis or clinical aspects in HS patients.RESUMEN La interleucina-4 (IL-4) tiene gran importancia en los procesos inflamatorios en casos de accidente cerebrovascular (ACV), puesto que hace que las microgl ías sean polarizadas hacia el fe...
