The prevalence and prognosis of asymptomatic intracranial atherosclerosis in a community-based population: Results based on high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging
CONCLUSIONS: We found that ICAD detected using HR-MRI increases the long-term risk of a first-ever ischemic stroke in a stroke-free population, suggesting that the current primary prevention protocol of stroke awaits further optimization.PMID:37738517 | DOI:10.1111/ene.16057

Association of chocolate consumption with neurological and cardiovascular outcomes in atrial fibrillation: data from two Swiss atrial fibrillation cohort studies (Swiss-AF and BEAT-AF)
CONCLUSION: While chocolate consumption was not associated with MRI findings and major adverse cardiac events in an atrial fibrillation population, No/Low-Ch was associated with a lower cognitive construct score, higher risk of heart failure hospitalisation and increased all-cause mortality compared to Mod-Ch.CLINICALTRIALS: gov Identifier: NCT02105844.PMID:37609948 | DOI:10.57187/smw.2023.40109

Trimethylamine N-Oxide and White Matter Hyperintensity Volume Among Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this observational study, TMAO was associated with cerebral small vessel disease determined by WMHV and acute lacunar infarction. The association was independent of traditional vascular risk factors.PMID:37610752 | PMC:PMC10448304 | DOI:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2023.30446

Correlation of the middle cerebral artery atherosclerotic plaque characteristics with ischemic stroke recurrence: a vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging study
This study aims to analyze the imaging features of atherosclerotic plaques in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) of patients with recurrent ischemic stroke using vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging (VWMRI) and investigate the correlation between these imaging features and the recurrence of ischemic stroke. Consecutive patients with ischemic stroke caused by atherosclerotic stenosis of the MCA were collected. The patients were divided into recurrent and non-recurrent ischemic stroke groups. We obtained VWMRI images of MCA plaques using 3.0T MRI by black-blood sequences, and the differences in VWMRI characteristics and clin...

The importance of MRI in the acute phase of herpes encephalitis mimicking an acute ischemic stroke
This report highlights a case of misdiagnosed HSE, aiming to discuss the management of similar cases and underscore the relevance of MRI in the emergency setting.PMID:37524960 | DOI:10.1007/s10072-023-06969-5

Low-dose intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator in acute ischemic stroke without large vessel occlusion screened by 3T MRI
CONCLUSIONS: Our study indicates the efficacy and safety of low-dose rTPA treatment for AIS without LVO within 4.5 hours. Patient selection for rTPA by 3T MRI decreased complications and mortality.PMID:37522667 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202307_33126

Imaging features of vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia combined with posterior circulation ischemic stroke: A vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging study
CONCLUSIONS: This preliminary study suggests that atherosclerosis may be an important cause of stroke in VBD patients. Symptomatic plaques in VBD patients have a lower degree of stenosis, NWI, and RI than that in non-VBD patients. VW-MRI may help to assess stroke mechanisms and identify VBD patients at high risk.PMID:37506476 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejrad.2023.110971

High-Resolution Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Acute Intracranial Artery Thrombus
CONCLUSIONS: HR-MRI helps clarify the pathogenesis of acute intracranial artery thrombus. The presence of peri-thrombus plaque and distal residual flow beyond the thrombus favor the stroke mechanism of atherosclerosis rather than cardioembolism.PMID:37452734 | DOI:10.1111/ene.15985
