Endovascular thrombectomy for large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke after cardiac surgery
ConclusionWe report the largest case series of EVT after cardiac surgery. EVT can be associated with excellent outcomes in these patients. Close neurological monitoring postoperatively to identify patients who may benefit from intervention is key.

On ‐ versus off‐pump CABG in octogenarians: A propensity‐matched analysis from the UK National Database
ConclusionThe data show similar in-hospital mortality in octogenarians regardless of the revascularization technique used. Off-pump when compared with on-pump CABG is associated with a lower incidence in postoperative neurological events but a higher need for renal dialysis.

Long-term Outcomes of Concomitant Surgical Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant atrial fibrillation ablation during cardiac surgery is safe, does not increase the rate of perioperative complications, and confers the benefit of long-term survival after cardiac surgery in adults. Atrial fibrillation ablation also improved cardiac surgery patients' long-term survival compared with the matched general atrial fibrillation population.PMID:36216085 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.09.036

Intraoperative and Early Postoperative Risk Factors for the Development of Acute Cerebrovascular Accident in Elderly Patients after Coronary-Artery Bypass Grafting
AbstractThis work presents data on the problem of ischemic heart disease, surgical myocardial revascularization, as well as the risk of developing acute cerebrovascular accident (ACVA) in elderly patients with coronary-artery bypass grafting (CABG). We conducted a study to identify risk factors for the development of ACVA in elderly patients. Predictors of ACVA development in the operative and early postoperative periods are identified. It is proven that the time of extubation, increased PCO2 levels, and hyperlactatemia are reliable intraoperative and early postoperative predictors of ACVA in elderly patients with CABG. Th...

Incidence and predictors of intracranial bleeding after coronary artery bypass graft surgery
CONCLUSIONS: In an unselected nationwide population undergoing CABG, the incidence of ICB was non-negligible and showed a relatively high incidence rate during the early postoperative period. Post-CABG ICB was associated with a high risk of premature death. Further research is needed to stratify high-risk patients and personalize therapeutic decisions for preventing ICB after CABG.PMID:36035927 | PMC:PMC9411799 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.863590

Ticagrelor with and without aspirin in patients with a prior coronary artery bypass graft undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: the TWILIGHT-CABG study
CONCLUSIONS: In high-risk patients with prior CABG, ticagrelor monotherapy reduced bleeding without compromising ischaemic outcomes compared with ticagrelor plus aspirin.PMID:35979636 | DOI:10.4244/EIJ-D-22-00319

Antiplatelet agents and anticoagulants for hypertension
CONCLUSIONS: There is no evidence that antiplatelet therapy modifies mortality in patients with elevated BP for primary prevention. ASA reduced the risk of cardiovascular events and increased the risk of major bleeding events. Antiplatelet therapy with ASA probably reduces the risk of non-fatal and all cardiovascular events when compared to clopidogrel. Clopidogrel increases the risk of major bleeding events compared to ASA in patients with elevated BP for secondary prevention. There is no evidence that warfarin modifies mortality in patients with elevated BP for secondary prevention. The benefits and harms of the newer dr...

Predicting postoperative ischemic stroke problems in patients following coronary bypass surgery using neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-lymphocyte ratio, and red blood cell distribution width values
CONCLUSIONS: In patients undergoing CABG, high preoperative PLR, NLR, and RDW values can be used as useful and independent risk factors for the prediction of postoperative ischemic stroke.PMID:35891995 | PMC:PMC9290396 | DOI:10.5114/kitp.2022.117499
