Oxidation ‑reduction potential parameters worsen following intraarterial therapy in patients with reduced collateral circulation and middle cerebral artery occlusions
In conclusion, upon patient admission, the ORP parameters were not significantly different between the collateral circulation status groups for MCA occlusions. The ORP parameters worsened after IAT regardless of the collateral circulation status; however, after IAT, on day 2, patients with good collaterals experienced less oxidative stress (sORP) and had higher antioxidant reserves (cORP) than patients with reduced collaterals.PMID:37229324 | PMC:PMC10203750 | DOI:10.3892/etm.2023.11994

Association between dietary antioxidant capacity and atherosclerotic carotid stenosis in patients with ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: DTAC may influence the initiation and development of atherosclerosis, and, therefore, the risk of ischemic stroke.PMID:37210776 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2023.107148

BRG1 alleviates microglial activation by promoting the KEAP1-NRF2/HO-1 signaling pathway and minimizing oxidative damage in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 May 10;119:110201. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110201. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBRG1 is a key factor in the process of apoptosis and oxidative damage; however, its role in the pathophysiology of ischemic stroke is unclear. Here, we discovered that during middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) reperfusion in mice, microglia were significantly activated in the cerebral cortex of the infarct area, and BRG1 expression was increased in the mouse MCAO/R model, peaking at 4 days. In microglia subjected to OGD/R, BRG1 expression increased and peaked at 12 h after reoxygenation. After ischemic stroke,...

A Bioinspired Manganese-Organic Framework Ameliorates Ischemic Stroke through its Intrinsic Nanozyme Activity and Upregulating Endogenous Antioxidant Enzymes
Adv Sci (Weinh). 2023 May 2:e2206854. doi: 10.1002/advs.202206854. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFollowing stroke, oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS) aggravates neuronal damage and enlarges ischemic penumbra, which is devastating to stroke patients. Nanozyme-based antioxidants are emerging to treat stroke through scavenging excessive ROS. However, most of nanozymes cannot efficiently scavenge ROS in neuronal cytosol and mitochondria, due to low-uptake abilities of neurons and barriers of organelle membranes, significantly limiting nanozymes' neuroprotective effects. To overcome this limitation, a man...

Indole-3-carbinol mitigates oxidative stress and inhibits inflammation in rat cerebral ischemia/reperfusion model
The objective of our research was to evaluate the protective properties of indole-3-carbinol (I3C) and its effect on redox status parameters, inflammation, and apoptosis intensity in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CIRI) in rats. I3C administration to CIRI rats decreased levels of oxidative stress markers and improved aerobic metabolism compared to the animals with CIRI. A decrease in myeloperoxidase activity, proinflammatory cytokines mRNA levels, and expression of redox-sensitive factor Nuclear Factor-κB was observed in rats with CIRI that received I3C. I3C-treated rats with pathology showed decreased caspase acti...
