Relationship of Preexisting Cardiovascular Comorbidities to Newly Diagnosed Atrial Fibrillation After Ischemic Stroke Brief Report
Conclusions—Preexisting cardiovascular comorbidities underlie AF newly diagnosed after stroke. Consequently, these high-risk patients should be closely monitored for incident AF to facilitate an earlier diagnosis of AF and avoid stroke with appropriate thromboprophylaxis.

More Than 50 Percent Reduction in LDL Cholesterol in Patients With Target LDL & lt;70 mg/dL After a Stroke

Early Hyperchloremia and Outcomes After Acute Ischemic Stroke
There may be a potential relationship between hyperchloremia and death or disability after ischemic stroke given the association between hyperchloremia and acute kidney injury (AKI)1,2 and increased risk of death or disability with AKI.3 –5 Huang et al.6 reported that approximately 18% of patients with stroke have new onset hyperchloremia (≥ 110 mmol/L) within 72 h of admission which was associated with death or disability at 6 months. However, the association was no longer significant after adjusting for age and National In stitutes of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) scores.

Preprocedure Intravenous Recombinant Tissue Plasminogen Activator and Risk of Distal Embolization with Thrombectomy in Acute Ischemic Stroke
Background: Intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (IV rt-PA) prior to thrombectomy may reduce the risk of intraprocedural distal embolization in acute ischemic stroke patients. Methods: We analyzed the diffusion-weighted imaging acquired with 1.5- or 3-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans obtained within 24 hours of thrombectomy in consecutive acute ischemic stroke patients. An independent physician identified distal embolization, defined as discrete foci of restricted diffusion independent of the primary area of infarction on MRI scan.

An international panel4 cautioned regarding the potential for high rate of death or disability and post thrombolytic intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)s in acute ischemic stroke patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection due to elevated concentrations of inflammation and hypercoagulability markers such as leukocytosis, and C reactive protein and D dimers and multisystem dysfunction.
