First cases of SARS-CoV-2 BA.2.86 in Denmark, 2023
We describe 10 cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variant BA.2.86 detected in Denmark, including molecular characteristics and results from wastewater surveillance that indicate that the variant is circulating in the country at a low level. This new variant with many spike gene mutations was classified as a variant under monitoring by the World Health Organization on 17 August 2023. Further global monitoring of COVID-19, BA.2.86 and other SARS-CoV-2 variants is highly warranted.PMID:37676147 | PMC:PMC10486197 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.36.2300460

A global systematic review and meta-analysis on the emerging evidence on risk factors, clinical characteristics, and prognosis of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in adults (MIS-A)
CONCLUSION: Our collated findings will help clinicians identify the typical presenting symptoms and optimal management of MIS-A. Further research is required to understand the long-term prognosis and the correlation between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and MIS-A to understand its pathogenesis and clinical spectrum.PMID:37663717 | PMC:PMC10473365 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000732

Perceived Social Support in Parents of Hospitalized Children During COVID-19
CONCLUSION: Through this unprecedented global health issue, levels of support remained high. Vaccination, having a vulnerable person at home, and intra-family conflicts were associated with support. A better understanding of support in parents with hospitalized children may help in the planning of rational and cost-effective interventions.PMID:37581804 | DOI:10.1007/978-3-031-31986-0_29

An unusual case of a triple suicide pact at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic
J Forensic Sci. 2023 Aug 10. doi: 10.1111/1556-4029.15358. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn December 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared SARS-CoV2 a global pandemic. Home confinement, low social contacts, and fear of virus transmission played a major role as risk factors for suicides during the following period. Suicide pacts, in particular, showed a different pattern. A rare case of a triple suicide pact among members of the same family nucleus is presented. The victims were an elderly, severely ill woman and her adult children (a son and daughter), linked by a morbid relationship. The last time the family ...
