Factors Associated With Circulating Sex Hormones in Men : Individual Participant Data Meta-analyses
CONCLUSION: Multiple factors are associated with variation in male testosterone, SHBG, and LH concentrations. Reduced testosterone and increased LH concentrations may indicate impaired testicular function after age 70 years. Interpretation of individual testosterone measurements should account particularly for age older than 70 years, obesity, diabetes, and cancer.PRIMARY FUNDING SOURCE: Medical Research Future Fund, Government of Western Australia, and Lawley Pharmaceuticals. Accelerated bone loss in older men with severe abdominal aortic calcification - the prospective MINOS study
CONCLUSIONS: Severe AAC is associated with faster bone loss in older men and may contribute to the higher fracture risk observed in this population.PMID:37610245 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad459

The impact of non-caloric artificial sweetener aspartame on female reproductive system in mice model
CONCLUSION: Non-nutritive artificial sweeteners including aspartame negatively impact the function of ovaries and feedback mechanism of reproductive hormones by affecting the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. In light of present findings the aspartame negatively impacted the reproductive system of female mice. More studies are required to identify the molecular mechanism and the pathways involved.PMID:37580716 | DOI:10.1186/s12958-023-01115-4

The relation between vitamin D and the adolescents' mid-luteal estradiol and progesterone
CONCLUSIONS: The mid-luteal E2 and P statistically decreased after vit. D intake (50,000 IU of vit. D weekly for 2 months). Significant negative correlations between the 25(OH)D, and both the mid-luteal E2 and P were detected in this study. The relation between vit. D and ovarian steroids, and the effect of vit. D intake on ovarian steroids need further larger studies.PMID:37522690 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202307_33150

Greb1 Transiently Accelerates Pancreatic β-Cell Proliferation in Diabetic Mice Exposed to Estradiol
Am J Pathol. 2023 Aug;193(8):1081-1100. doi: 10.1016/j.ajpath.2023.04.012.ABSTRACTDecrease of pancreatic β cells leads to diabetes. In an inducible cAMP early suppressor (ICER-Iγ) transgenic mouse model of severe type 2 diabetes with reduced insulin production and depleted β cells, supplementation with high concentrations of 17β-estradiol (E2) markedly enhances β-cell proliferation and normalizes glucose levels. The current study explored the underlying mechanisms leading to a dynamic increase of β cells and pathologic changes in diabetic mice exposed to E2. Gene expression profiling of pancreatic islets of 6-month-o...
