Neuromuscular and Muscle Metabolic Functions in MELAS Before and After Resistance Training: A Case Study
Conclusion To conclude, this study suggests a preserved plasticity in the skeletal muscle of a patient with MELAS. More importantly, Resistance Training appears to be a safe and effective method to increase skeletal muscle function in this patient population, and this effect is mediated by both neuromuscular and mitochondrial adaptations. Abstract Hypertension and tobacco smoking are two major modifiable risk factors for atheromatous disease and its cardiovascular complications. If systolic hypertension (SBP≥140mmHg and DBP<90mmHg) is the leading risk factor for stroke, smoking (nicotine) has a more powerful impact on coronary events, aortic aneurysms, and peripheral artery disease. Engineers, doctors and scientists at UCLA and Rutgers University have developed a tool that measures the physical strength of individual cells 100 times faster than current technologies.The new device could make it easier and faster to test and evaluate new drugs for diseases associated with abnormal levels of cell strength, including hypertension, asthma and muscular dystrophy.
