Ultra-efficient radio-immunotherapy for reprogramming the hypoxic and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment with durable innate immune memory
Biomaterials. 2023 Sep 5;302:122303. doi: 10.1016/j.biomaterials.2023.122303. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRadiosensitization efficacy of conventional tumor radiosensitizers has been frequently limited by insufficient competence for tumor microenvironment (TME) regulation and unfavorable cellular uptake at biological barriers. Here, we reported an ultra-efficient radiotherapy (RT) strategy by synthesizing an extracellular vesicles (EVs)-encapsulated hollow MnO2 to load metformin (Met@HMnER). It demonstrated significant RT enhancement by morphological control of catalyst and cellular respiratory depression against conventi...

Metformin Improves Comorbid Depressive Symptoms in Mice with Allergic Rhinitis by Reducing Olfactory Bulb Damage
In conclusion, our findings suggest that metformin might be a viable strategy for treating AR-related depression, possibly by modulating neuroplasticity, neurogenesis, apoptosis, and BDNF signaling in the OB via the AMPK/TET2 pathway.PMID:37574530 | DOI:10.1007/s11064-023-04012-9

Pterostilbene ameliorates type-2 diabetes mellitus - induced depressive-like behavior by mitigating insulin resistance, inflammation and ameliorating HPA axis dysfunction in rat brain
Brain Res. 2023 Jul 19:148494. doi: 10.1016/j.brainres.2023.148494. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the most serious mental health comorbidities associated with diabetes mellitus is depression. The occurrence is almost double in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) compared with the general population. Pterostilbene (PTE), a dimethylated analog of resveratrol, has been reported for significant neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic, hypoglycaemic and antioxidant effects. However, its effect on diabetes-induced depression-like behavior (DID) has not been studied. The current study aimed at studying the effects of...

Activation of AMPK α2 attenuated doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity via inhibiting lipid peroxidation associated ferroptosis
This study demonstrated that the up-regulation of ferroptosis associated proteins genes were accompanied with the down-regulation of AMPKα2 phosphorylation in DOX treated mouse heart or neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs). AMPKα2 knockout (AMPKα2-/-) significantly exacerbated mouse cardiac dysfunction, increased mortality, promoting ferroptosis associated mitochondrial injuries, enhanced ferroptosis associated proteins and genes expression, and lead to accumulation of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in mouse serum and hearts respectively. Ferrostatin-1 administration markedly improved cardiac funct...
