Relationship of the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio with vulnerable plaque in patients with severe carotid artery stenosis: A case-control study in the Han Chinese population
CONCLUSIONS: LDL-c/HDL-c, smoking and diabetes were independent risk factors for vulnerable plaque in patients with severe CAS, and LDL-c/HDL-c had a higher predictive value for the presence of vulnerable plaque compared with other lipid parameters.PMID:35770391 | DOI:10.2174/1567202619666220629160733

Grace Under Pressure: Resiliency of Quality Monitoring of Stroke Care During the Covid-19 Pandemic in Mexico City
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability among adults worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared a COVID-19 pandemic on March 11, 2020. The first case in Mexico was confirmed in February 2020, subsequently becoming one of the countries most affected by the pandemic. In 2020, The National Institute of Neurology of Mexico started a Quality assurance program for stroke care, consisting of registering, monitoring and feedback of stroke quality measures through the RES-Q platform. We aim to describe changes in the demand for stroke healthcare assistance at the National Institute of Neu...

Comparing pharmacotherapy in MINOCA versus medically managed obstructive acute coronary syndrome
This study uniquely compares the management and outcomes of MINOCA patients with a medically managed obstructive ACS (M-ACS) population. We retrospectively analysed registry data for consecutive patients admitted to the Gold Coast University Hospital with ACS requiring coronary angiography and identified patients with MINOCA and M-ACS. Baseline characteristics, pharmacological therapy and in-hospital outcomes were compared. In hospital outcomes were composite NACE, heart failure, stroke and major bleeding. Multivariate regression analysis was also performed to identify independent predictors of MINOCA. Multivariate regress...

Integrated head and neck imaging of symptomatic patients with stroke using simultaneous non-contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance angiography and intraplaque hemorrhage imaging as compared with digital subtraction angiography
CONCLUSIONS: CMR SNAP is consistent with DSA in measuring vessel diameters and identifying atherosclerosis stenosis in each intracranial and carotid vessel segment. SNAP is also a potential alternative to HR-VWI in identifying stenosis and IPH.PMID:35307027 | DOI:10.1186/s12968-022-00849-1

Association of Coronary Plaque With Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Levels and Rates of Cardiovascular Disease Events Among Symptomatic Adults
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: The findings of this cohort study suggest that in symptomatic patients with severely elevated LDL-C levels of at least 190 mg/dL who are universally considered to be at high risk by guidelines, absence of calcified and noncalcified plaque on coronary computed tomographic angiography was associated with low risk for ASCVD events. These results further suggest that atherosclerosis burden, including CAC, can be used to individualize treatment intensity in patients with severely elevated LDL-C levels.PMID:35147685 | DOI:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2021.48139

Combination of High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol and Lipoprotein(a) as a Predictor of Collateral Circulation in Patients With Severe Unilateral Internal Carotid Artery Stenosis or Occlusion
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with severe unilateral ICA stenosis or occlusion, the combination of HDL-C and Lp(a) is a useful predictor of collateral circulation.PMID:35021272 | DOI:10.3988/jcn.2022.18.1.14
