A Prospective Epidemiological Analysis of Controlling Nutritional Status Score with the Poor Functional Outcomes in Chinese Patients with Hemorrhagic Stroke
Br J Nutr. 2021 Aug 19:1-18. doi: 10.1017/S0007114521003184. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNutritional Risk Screening index is a standard tool to assess nutritional risk, but epidemiological data are scarce on Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) as a prognostic marker in acute hemorrhagic stroke (AHS). We aimed to explore whether the CONUT may predict a 3-month functional outcome in AHS. In total, 349 Chinese patients with incident AHS were consecutively recruited, and their malnutrition risks were determined using a high CONUT score of ≥ 2. The cohort patients were divided into high-CONUT (≥ 2) and low-CONUT (< ...

The Debate Over Egg Consumption and Incident Cardiovascular Disease
There is a great debate regarding the association of cholesterol intake from egg consumption and the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Most studies show that moderate egg consumption is not associated with a significant increase in CVD, stroke, heart failure, and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), whereas others dispute this fact and state that there is an association with increased egg consumption, especially if they are consumed with saturated fats. In addition, the recent relaxation of cholesterol intake to greater than 300 mg/d by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Nutritional Guidelin...

Increased serum levels of cadmium are associated with an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease in adults
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2021 Aug 6. doi: 10.1007/s11356-021-15732-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrevious studies have determined the effects of exposure to certain heavy metals on cardiovascular disease (CVD); however, the association between cadmium exposure and CVD in adults remains unclear. The relationship between serum levels of cadmium and the risk of CVD was studied by analyzing available data from 38,223 different participants of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2016. After adjusting for all covariates, we found that higher serum cadmium concentrations were positivel...

Cardiovascular health status of taxi/for-hire vehicle drivers in the United States: A systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Rigorous and high quality research is needed to further investigate rates of cardiovascular health in this population. The complexity of data collection in this group presents challenges to this endeavor. The high prevalence of poor nutrition, limited physical activity, diabetes, and blood pressure across studies indicates an urgent need to address low rates of health care access at a policy level and to design targeted workplace interventions.PMID:34219688 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-213525

Different associations between HDL cholesterol and cardiovascular diseases in people with diabetes mellitus and people without diabetes mellitus: a prospective community-based study
CONCLUSIONS: High HDL-cholesterol concentrations were paradoxically associated with high risk of composite CVD outcomes in individuals with or without DM. However, low HDL-cholesterol concentrations failed to predict future CVD risk in individuals with DM.PMID:34019626 | DOI:10.1093/ajcn/nqab163
