Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder as a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases: a nationwide population-based cohort study
World Psychiatry. 2022 Oct;21(3):452-459. doi: 10.1002/wps.21020.ABSTRACTAccumulating evidence suggests a higher risk for cardiovascular diseases among individuals with mental disorders, but very little is known about the risk for overall and specific groups of cardiovascular diseases in people with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). To fill this knowledge gap, we investigated the prospective associations between ADHD and a wide range of cardiovascular diseases in adults. In a nationwide population-based cohort study, we identified 5,389,519 adults born between 1941 and 1983, without pre-existing cardiovascul...

Immediate and short-term effects of continuous theta burst transcranial magnetic stimulation over contralesional premotor area on post-stroke spasticity in patients with severe hemiplegia: Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
This study aims to demonstrate the immediate and short-term efficacy of continuous theta-burst stimulation (cTBS) targeting cPMA on upper limb spasticity in severe subacute stroke patients.MethodsThis trial is a single-center, prospective, three-group randomized controlled trial. Forty-five eligible patients will be recruited and randomized into three groups: the sham-cTBS group (sham cTBS targeting contralesional PMA), the cTBS-cM1 group (cTBS targeting contralesional M1), and the cTBS-cPMA group (cTBS targeting contralesional PMA). All subjects will undergo comprehensive rehabilitation and the corresponding cTBS interven...

Association between history of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder diagnosis and cardiovascular disease in U.S. adults.
Conclusions: In a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults, we found a significant, positive association between a history of ADHD diagnosis and CVD. Further investigation is needed to replicate our findings and determine the underlying mechanisms. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)

The etiology of poststroke-depression: a hypothesis involving HPA axis
Biomed Pharmacother. 2022 May 26;151:113146. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2022.113146. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTApproximately, one in three ischemic stroke survivors suffered from depression, namely, post-stroke depression (PSD). PSD affects functional rehabilitation and may lead to poor quality of life of patients. There are numerous explanations about the etiologies of PSD. Here, we speculated that PSD are likely to be the result of specific changes in brain pathology. We hypothesized that the stroke-induced hyperactivity of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis plays an important role in PSD. Stroke initiates a comple...
