Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Diseases in Morocco: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: Based on these alarming incidences, investment in scientific research and epidemiological studies should be increased to determine the needs of the local population. The available evidence shows that the risk of cardiovascular disease and the associated mortality is very high in Morocco and will rise in the next years prospectively, which calls for urgent multi-sectorial approaches and treatment strategies.PMID:34852896 | DOI:10.1900/RDS.2021.17.57

Risk of Incident Dementia According to Glycemic Status and Comorbidities of Hyperglycemia: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONSMild degrees of hyperglycemia and presence of comorbidities were associated with incident dementia. Intervention during the prodromal stage of a chronic disease (e.g., prediabetes) could be considered for dementia prevention.

Causes and Consequences of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: Insights from Mendelian Randomization
CONCLUSIONS: The accumulation of genome-wide association studies in PCOS has enabled multiple MR analyses identifying factors that may cause PCOS or be caused by PCOS. This knowledge will be critical to future development of measures to prevent PCOS in girls at risk as well as prevent complications in those who have PCOS.PMID:34669940 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgab757

DNA methylation level of the gene encoding thioredoxin-interacting protein in peripheral blood cells is associated with metabolic syndrome in the Japanese general population
Endocr J. 2021 Oct 14. doi: 10.1507/endocrj.EJ21-0339. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetabolic syndrome (MetS) is cluster of metabolic diseases, including abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia, high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia, that directly escalate the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) is a binding protein for thioredoxin, a molecule that is a key inhibitor of cellular oxidation, and thus regulates the cellular redox state. Epigenetic alteration of the TXNIP-encoding locus has been associated with components of MetS. In the present study, we sought to determine wh...
