Increased risk of cardiovascular events in end-stage renal disease patients with osteoporosis: a nationwide population-based cohort study
Conclusions The results showed that osteoporosis was significantly associated with the subsequent risk of cardiovascular events in patients with ESRD. When encountering patients with ESRD and osteoporosis, physicians should be alert to the subsequent cardiovascular risk in incident dialysis patients to prevent the subsequent occurrence of these adverse events.

History of cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular biomarkers are associated with 30-day mortality in patients with hip fracture
ConclusionPreexisting CVD was associated with increased 30-day mortality after a hip fracture. Furthermore, high levels of NT-proBNP and low levels of HDL cholesterol were associated with increased 30-day mortality.

Effects of Patient Comorbidities and Demographics on Episode-of-Care Costs Following Total Shoulder Arthroplasty
CONCLUSION: Providers should be aware that certain demographic variables and comorbidities (history of stroke, dementia, chronic pulmonary disease, anemia, heart disease, advanced age, and elevated body mass index) are associated with an increase in total costs following primary shoulder arthroplasty. Diabetes mellitus, especially type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), has become a medical mass phenomenon in many parts of the world. Unrestricted access to a high-carbohydrate/high-fat diet in combination with considerably higher energy uptake compared to expenditure has led to a pandemic of the metabolic syndrome and T2DM in many countries. Vascular complications resulting from T2DM include nephropathy, neuropathy and retinopathy as well as ischemic heart disease, peripheral vascular disease and stroke.

Incidence and risk factors of medical complications and direct medical costs after osteoporotic fracture among patients in China

Osteoporosis and the long-term risk of peripheral artery disease: a population-based longitudinal follow-up study in Taiwan
ConclusionThis study found an increased long-term risk of PAD in both men and women with osteoporosis.Mini abstractOsteoporosis has been associated with increased risks of atherosclerotic diseases. However, the relationship between osteoporosis and peripheral artery disease remains uncertain. The present population-based longitudinal follow-up study showed that patients with osteoporosis are at an increased risk of developing peripheral artery disease.
