Kidney function and cardiovascular diseases: a large-scale observational and Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionOur study provides evidence for causal effects of CVDs on kidney function. However, the evidence to support the causal effects of kidney function on CVDs is currently insufficient. Further mechanistic studies are required to determine the causality.

Circulating levels of cytokines and risk of cardiovascular disease: a Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionThe present study provides supportive evidence that genetic predisposition to levels of certain cytokines causally affects the development of specific type of CVD. These findings have important implications for the creation of novel therapeutic strategies targeting these cytokines as a means of preventing and treating CVD.

ATP-binding cassette G1 membrane transporter-mediated cholesterol efflux capacity influences coronary atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk in Rheumatoid Arthritis
CONCLUSION: ABCG1-CEC inversely associated with plaque burden and vulnerability, and plaque progression conditionally on cumulative inflammation and corticosteroid dose. ABCG1-CEC inversely associated with events specifically in patients with noncalcified plaques, lower inflammation and in prednisone users.PMID:36996698 | DOI:10.1016/j.jaut.2023.103029

High-dose influenza vaccines for the prevention of hospitalization due to cardiovascular events in older adults in the nursing home: Post-hoc analysis of a cluster-randomized trial
Vaccine. 2022 Oct 13:S0264-410X(22)01215-4. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.09.085. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOlder adults are at high risk of major acute cardiovascular events (MACE) linked to influenza illness andpreventable by influenza vaccination. It is unknown whether high-dose vaccine might incrementally reduce the risk of MACE.We conducted a post-hoc analysis of data collected from a pragmatic cluster randomized study of 823 nursing homes (NH) randomized to standard-dose (SD) or high-dose (HD) influenza vaccine in the 2013-14 season. Adults age 65 year or older who are Medicare-enrolled long-stay residents were inc...

Uveitis increases the risk of stroke among patients with ankylosing spondylitis: A nationwide population-based longitudinal study
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is known to increase the risk of stroke. Among patients with AS, uveitis is the most common extra-articular manifestation. However, no previous investigations have discussed the association between uveitis and the risk for developing stroke in patients with AS. This retrospective cohort study aimed to explore the relationship between uveitis and the incidence of stroke in patients with AS by obtaining medical records from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2015, from the National Health Insurance Research Database, according to the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical M...

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Cardiovascular Disease: A Mendelian Randomization Study
ConclusionOur MR study explored the causal role of SLE in the etiology of CVD, which would help improve our understanding of the basic disease mechanisms of SLE and provide comprehensive CVD assessment and treatment for SLE patients.

Effectiveness of the influenza vaccine at reducing adverse events in patients with heart failure: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Influenza vaccination appears to reduce adverse cardiovascular events, although the certainty of the evidence is low or very low. Rigorous randomized controlled trial evidence is needed to further examine the protective effect of the influenza vaccine in heart failure patients.PMID:35562195 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.04.039

Multiple Sclerosis and the Risk of Cardiovascular Diseases: A Mendelian Randomization Study
ConclusionsWe provided suggestive genetic evidence for the causal associations of MS with increased risk of CAD, MI, HF, AS, and AIS, which highlighted the significance of active monitoring and prevention of cardiovascular risk to combat cardiovascular comorbidities in MS patients.
