Safety and tolerability of transcranial magnetic and direct current stimulation in children: Prospective single center evidence from 3.5 million stimulations
ConclusionsStandard non-invasive brain stimulation paradigms are safe and well-tolerated in children and should be considered minimal risk. Advancement of applications in the developing brain are warranted.

Decreased CSF Levels of ß-Amyloid in Patients With Cortical Superficial Siderosis
Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that the presence and extent of cSS are associated with reduced CSF ß-amyloid 42 levels. Further studies are needed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of this association. Introduction Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA)—characterized by the deposition of ß-amyloid in the walls of leptomeningeal vessels—is a common cerebral small vessel disease and a major cause of intracerebral hemorrhage in the elderly (1–3). Furthermore, it has become evident that CAA is associated with cognitive impairment (4). Specifically, it has been shown that ...

Intravenous Thrombolysis in Posterior Circulation Stroke
Conclusions: Up to date, no data about PCIS and IVT are available from RTCs. Based on limited results from retrospective clinical studies and case series, IVT is safer for use in PCIS than in ACIS. Patients with brainstem ischemia, vertebral artery occlusion, and absence of basilar or posterior cerebral artery occlusion could be considered for treatment with IVT even in borderline cases. Time to IVT in PCIS seems to be a less crucial factor than in ACIS. IVT for PCIS may be beneficial even after 4.5 h from symptom onset. Neurological Involvement in Primary Systemic Vasculitis
Conclusion Neurological involvement is a common complication of PSV (Table 1), and neurologists play an important role in the identification and diagnosis of PSV patients with otherwise unexplained neurological symptoms as their chief complaint. This article summarizes the neurological manifestations of PSV and hopes to improve neuroscientists' understanding of this broad range of diseases. TABLE 1 Table 1. Common CNS and PNS involvements of primary systemic vasculitis. Author Contributions SZ conceived the article and wrote the manuscript. DY and GT reviewed and edited the manuscript. All authors ...

The Predictive Capacity of the Buffalo Concussion Treadmill Test After Sport-Related Concussion in Adolescents
Conclusion This study found that the ΔHR (HRt minus resting HR) correlated with duration of clinical recovery in participants who were prescribed relative rest or a placebo-stretching program but not for participants prescribed sub-threshold aerobic exercise. A ΔHR of ≤50 bpm on the BCTT was 73% sensitive and 78% specific for predicting delayed recovery in concussed adolescents prescribed the current standard of care (i.e., cognitive and physical rest). This has implications for planning team and school activities in adolescents who sustain SRC. Ethics Statement This study was carried out in acco...

A Chinese Family With Adult-Onset Leigh-Like Syndrome Caused by the Heteroplasmic m.10191T > C Mutation in the Mitochondrial MTND3 Gene
Conclusion The m.10191T>C mutation in the mtDNA of the complex I (CI) subunit of MTND3 results in the substitution of a highly conserved amino acid (p.Ser45Pro) within the ND3 protein, leading to CI dysfunction through impaired enzyme catalysis rather than impaired stability or assembly, causing a broad clinical spectrum of disorders (26). Patients with the m.10191T>C mutation are rare. In the present study, we report on a family of patients with the extremely rare adult-onset Leigh-like syndrome with the m.10191T>C mutation. Including the two patients from our reported family, the m.10191T...

Pre-injury Comorbidities Are Associated With Functional Impairment and Post-concussive Symptoms at 3- and 6-Months After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A TRACK-TBI Study
Conclusions: Pre-injury psychiatric and pre-injury headache/migraine symptoms are risk factors for worse functional and post-concussive outcomes at 3- and 6-months post-mTBI. mTBI patients presenting to acute care should be evaluated for psychiatric and headache/migraine history, with lower thresholds for providing TBI education/resources, surveillance, and follow-up/referrals. Clinical Trial Registration: www.ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT01565551. Introduction Traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In 2013 ~2.8 million TBI cases were recorded an...

An RCVS Spectrum Disorder? New Daily Persistent Headache Starting as a Single Thunderclap Headache (3 New Cases).
CONCLUSION: This NDPH subtype appears to be rare. The key to diagnosis is asking about the temporal profile of the onset of the first ever NDPH headache. None of the case patients had been asked about the initial headache and its pattern of onset. Nimodipine seems to be very effective in treating this NDPH subtype. This syndrome is most likely precipitated by persistent or intermittent cerebral artery vasospasm. It is possibly a subform of the reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome. Primary Stroke Prevention in Women (S4.006)
Conclusions: Our pilot data suggest that OB/GYN, IM and FM have moderate awareness of PCP guidelines, correctly answering approximately 2/3 of questions. Educational gaps and barriers were identified in all groups. We recommend increasing awareness about PSP in women among PCPs.Disclosure: Dr. Patel has nothing to disclose. Facial Colliculus and Opalski Stroke Syndromes Caused by Vertebral Artery Dissection. Case Report (P4.349)
Conclusion: Brainstem stroke syndromes are challenging to localize before brain imaging. In this case two embolic strokes happened. The first in the right facial colliculus causing the right 6th and 7th cranial nerves palsy. The second happened in the left lateral medulla extending below the pyramidal decussation causing a classical left lateral medullary syndrome with ipsilateral hemiparesis, which constitute a left Opalski stroke syndrome.Disclosure: Dr. Alghamdi has nothing to disclose. CT within 6 hours of headache onset to rule out subarachnoid hemorrhage in nonacademic hospitals
Conclusions: Our results support a change of practice wherein a lumbar puncture can be withheld in patients with a head CT scan performed <6 hours after headache onset and reported negative for the presence of SAH by a staff radiologist in the described nonacademic setting.

Pineal Apoplexy With Cerebral Infarction (P1.033)
CONCLUSIONS:Although it appears that the infarcts were caused by the apoplexy due to their temporal progression, we conclude that pineal apoplexy was unlikely to cause the patient’s stroke and that the potential culprit of both events was a proximal source such as a cardiac or aortic thromboembolism.Disclosure: Dr. Truong has nothing to disclose. Stroke And Cerebrovascular Risk Factors Knowledge In Patients Admitted To A Cardiovascular Ward. (P1.135)
Conclusion: Even in these selected population, with previous or current CVD, a large amount of RF and a high rate of previous medical consultations, knowledge about stroke showed to be very low indicating a poor quality of preventive measures and the need to emphasize educational interventions.Disclosure: Dr. Muñoz has nothing to disclose. Stroke in a Young Patient: A Sentinel Presentation of Neurosyphilis and HIV (P2.109)
Conclusions: Neurosyphilis should be a diagnostic consideration in young patients with ischemic stroke. Clinicians should be aware of the high incidence of concomitant syphilis and HIV in at-risk populations. Effort should be made to inquire about high-risk behaviors and initiate testing for these infections early in the diagnostic workup to avoid missing these crucial diagnoses.Disclosure: Dr. Flaherty has nothing to disclose.
