An in-depth appraisal of clinico-biochemical and radiological findings of COVID-19 patients during the COVID-19 pandemic in a dedicated COVID Care Hospital in Eastern India and its outcome in relation to the COVAXIN vaccination status: A 2-year study
CONCLUSION: Immune dysregulation plays a central role in the pathogenesis of the manifestations. Vaccine-induced protection and the induction of herd immunity played a proactive role in the waning of the severity of clinical presentations.PMID:37448914 | PMC:PMC10336931 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1853_22

Distinct Features of Vascular Diseases in COVID-19
J Inflamm Res. 2023 Jul 6;16:2783-2800. doi: 10.2147/JIR.S417691. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was declared in early 2020 after several unexplained pneumonia cases were first reported in Wuhan, China, and subsequently in other parts of the world. Commonly, the disease comprises several clinical features, including high temperature, dry cough, shortness of breath, and hypoxia, associated with findings of interstitial pneumonia on chest X-ray and computer tomography. Nevertheless, severe forms of acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are not limited to the ...

Management and outcome of COVID-19 in CTLA-4 insufficiency
We report the clinical course of 22 patients with CTLA-4 insufficiency and COVID-19 and retrospectively examine autoantibodies to type 1 interferons at baseline. Data was obtained from patient interview and chart review. Screening for anti-IFN autoantibodies was carried out using a multiplex particle-based assay. Student's T-test, Mann Whitney, ANOVA, or chi squared tests were used where appropriate. Twenty-two patients, ages 8 months to 54 years old, with genetically confirmed CLTA-4 insufficiency, developed COVID-19 from 2020-2022. Most common symptoms were fever, cough, and nasal congestion, and median duration of illne...

Study on acute respiratory infection in children aged 1 year to 5 years-A hospital-based cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The studies regarding factors influencing ARI are relatively rare in an urban setting, thus this calls for more studies in urban areas. Health education can change the healthcare-seeking behavior and attitude of parents for preventing ARI-related deaths. Family physicians can play a significant role by educating caregivers of children and giving timely services. Promoting and ensuring exclusive breastfeeding practices, timely weaning after 6 months, and avoidance of bottle feeds can dramatically decrease the episodes of ARI.PMID:37312761 | PMC:PMC10259544 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1748_22

Fight Aging! Newsletter, September 19th 2022
Conclusion Use of the Khavinson peptides and melatonin in combination in this way, at this dose, negatively impacts the thymus, producing a reduction in active tissue and increase in atrophy to fatty tissue. The degree to which this atrophy occurred is greater than one would expect to take place over nine months of aging at this stage of life. Why did this outcome occur, given the animal studies showing thymic regrowth, and the studies showing reduced later life mortality following use of thymogen? We can only speculate. Firstly, the dose makes the poison, and the dosing here may have been too high, too frequ...

Peritoneal dialysis in the era of COVID-19: experience of a Tunisian center
J Nephrol. 2022 Aug 1. doi: 10.1007/s40620-022-01396-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the health landscape by hampering the management of patients with chronic diseases. Providing optimal healthcare has become a critical issue, especially for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) receiving in-center dialysis. Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) has the advantage of being a home-based therapy. Several papers about COVID-19 in the chronic kidney disease (CKD) population have been published, but few studies focused on the PD population, with limited case series. In this paper, we share our st...

Conclusion: These assays are suitable for routine diagnostic. The UltraFast NextGenPCR is the fastest with average time (30mins), followed by Agilent (2 hrs) and MassArray (6hrs). Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to examine, measure and compare results from different assays for SARS detection, evaluate and diagnose accurately, as well as being able to plan, organize and recommend a diagnostic procedure for diagnostic laboratory. Key words: SARS-CoV-2, RNA extraction, RT-PCR, limit of detection, quantification cycle, COVID-19, in vitro diagnostic tests, Agilent, Massarray, Ultrafast. [20] From t...
