Liver injury: the therapeutic dilemma of homeopathy - a case report from Bangladesh
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2023 May 22;85(7):3642-3645. doi: 10.1097/MS9.0000000000000918. eCollection 2023 Jul.ABSTRACTDespite the lack of scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness, homeopathic treatment is increasingly being used as a form of alternative medicine, with many people taking homeopathic remedies instead of drug therapies. It is based on the principle of 'like cures like', meaning that a remedy similar to the illness can be used to treat it. However, there have been several reports suggesting the risks of homeopathic remedies, among which homeopathy-induced liver injury is widely discussed. Here, we report a...

Assessing the magnitude of reporting bias in trials of homeopathy: a cross-sectional study and meta-analysis
Conclusions Registration of published trials was infrequent, many registered trials were not published and primary outcomes were often altered or changed. This likely affects the validity of the body of evidence of homeopathic literature and may overestimate the true treatment effect of homeopathic remedies.

Indian Traditional Treatments for Psoriasis: A Critical Appraisal of Available Evidence Supporting Efficacy
AbstractPsoriasis is an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory skin disease with multifactorial etiology. Although many drugs are available in biomedicine for the treatment of psoriasis, these therapies are aimed at controlling the disease rather than a complete cure. In India, traditional systems of medicines like Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and homeopathy are practised for psoriasis. This review examines data from 17 selected studies supporting the clinical efficacy of medical management approaches from these systems using outcome indicators employed in clinical practice and research for psoriasis. All studies reported good i...

Complementary medicine use among general internal medicine inpatients in a Swiss university hospital
ConclusionOne‐third of hospitalised patients used CM 2 months before hospitalisation and one‐tenth during hospital stay. CM use is seldom queried by hospital staff; better assessment of CM use among hospitalised patients could prevent potential adverse events or interactions.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine Treatment Options for Otitis Media: A Systematic Review
Abstract: Otitis media (OM) has numerous presentations in children. Together with conventional medical therapies aimed to prevent and/or treat OM, a rising number of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) treatment options can be offered. Since OM is common in children, parents may ask healthcare professionals about possible CAM therapies. Many physicians feel that their knowledge is limited regarding these therapies, and that they desire some information. Therefore, we conducted a literature review of CAM therapies for OM, taking into account that many of these treatments, their validity and efficacy and have not be...

High prevalence of complementary and alternative medicine use in patients with genetically proven mitochondrial disorders
The objective of this study was to evaluate the use and perceived effectiveness of complementary and alternative medicine in children and adults with genetically proven mitochondrial disease. The reported use was surprisingly high, with 88 % of children and 91 % of adults having used some kind of complementary and alternative medicine in the last 2 years. Also, the mean cost of these treatments was impressive, being €489/year for children and €359/year for adult patients. Over-the-counter remedies (e.g., food supplements, homeopathy) and self-help techniques (e.g., Reiki, yoga) were the most frequently used compleme...
