Clinical outcome analysis of non-small cell lung cancer patients with brain metastasis receiving metastatic brain tumor resection surgery: a multicenter observational study
Am J Cancer Res. 2023 Aug 15;13(8):3607-3617. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTBrain metastasis is most common in primary non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and some patients require neurosurgical resection for intracranial disease control. Because advances in systemic therapies for metastatic NSCLC have been developed in the past decade, we aimed to analyze and determine clinical factors associated with the postresection survival of NSCLC patients with brain metastasis who underwent neurosurgery followed by systemic therapy. Between January 2017 and December 2021, data for 93 NSCLC patients with brain metastasis treated with neu...

Optimized detection and segmentation of nuclei in gastric cancer images using stain normalization and blurred artifact removal
Pathol Res Pract. 2023 Jul 16;248:154694. doi: 10.1016/j.prp.2023.154694. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHistological analysis with microscopy is the gold standard to diagnose and stage cancer, where slides or whole slide images are analyzed for cell morphological and spatial features by pathologists. The nuclei of cancerous cells are characterized by nonuniform chromatin distribution, irregular shapes, and varying size. As nucleus area and shape alone carry prognostic value, detection and segmentation of nuclei are among the most important steps in disease grading. However, evaluation of nuclei is a laborious, time-consumi...

< em > Allocoprobacillus halotolerans < /em > gen. nov., sp. nov and < em > Coprobacter tertius < /em > sp. nov., isolated from human gut microbiota
Int J Syst Evol Microbiol. 2023 Jul;73(7). doi: 10.1099/ijsem.0.005950.ABSTRACTTwo novel bacterial isolates were cultured from faecal samples of patients attending the Breast Care clinic at the Norwich and Norfolk University Hospital. Strain LH1062T was isolated from a 58-year-old female diagnosed with invasive adenocarcinoma with ductal carcinoma in situ. Strain LH1063T was isolated from a healthy 51-year-old female. Isolate LH1062T was predicted to be a potential novel genus most closely related to Coprobacillus, whilst LH1063T was predicted to be a novel species belonging to Coprobacter. Both strains were characterized ...

Correlation exploration among CT imaging, pathology and genotype of pulmonary ground-glass opacity
This study is an exploratory study. 465 cases with GGO confirmed by HRCT, undergoing surgery and approved by pathologic diagnosis in Shanghai pulmonary hospital were enrolled in this study. All the patients with GGO were cases with single lesion. The relationship between the clinical, imaging, pathological and molecular biological data of single GGO were statistically studied. (1) Among 465 cases, the median age was 58 years and females were 315 (67.7%); there were 397 (85.4%) non-smoking, and 354 cases (76.1%) had no clinical symptoms. There were 33 cases of benign and 432 cases of malignant GGO. Significant differences w...

Prognostic evaluation of cancer associated fibrosis and tumor budding in colorectal cancer
Pathol Res Pract. 2023 Jun 2;248:154587. doi: 10.1016/j.prp.2023.154587. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTColorectal carcinoma (CRC) is the second most common cancer and third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Although the staging system provides a standardized guidance in treatment regimens, the clinical outcome in patients with colon cancer at the same TNM stage may vary dramatically. Thus, for better predictive accuracy, further prognostic and/or predictive markers are required. Patients who underwent curative surgery for colorectal cancer in past 3 years at a tertiary care hospital were retrospectively inc...

Peritoneal Carcinomatosis From Metastatic Prostate Cancer Identified on 68Ga-Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen PET/CT
Clin Nucl Med. 2023 Jun 8. doi: 10.1097/RLU.0000000000004734. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 69-year-old man with locally advanced prostate adenocarcinoma (Gleason score 9), who had completed hormone therapy and definitive radiotherapy, presented to hospital with abdominal pain and distension. A CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis revealed ascites and extensive peritoneal/omental nodules. Serum prostate-specific antigen was not raised (0.07 μg/L). 68Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET/CT demonstrated PSMA-avid disease in the prostate and widespread PSMA-avid peritoneal/omental and liver metastases but with no ...
