Phyllanthin Averts Oxidative Stress and Neuroinflammation in Cerebral Ischemic-Reperfusion Injury through Modulation of the NF- κB and AMPK/Nrf2 Pathways
J Environ Pathol Toxicol Oncol. 2021;40(1):85-97. doi: 10.1615/JEnvironPatholToxicolOncol.2020036307.ABSTRACTCerebral ischemia-reperfusion (CIR) is a common feature of ischemic stroke and is a major cause of disability and death among stroke patients worldwide. Phyllanthin, a lignin polyphenol, is known for its varied biological properties, although its protective effects against CIR have not been reported. We evaluated the neuroprotective property of phyllanthin against CIR as well as the involvement of the AMP-activated protein kinase/nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (AMPK/Nrf2) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-...

Effects of the methanol fraction of modified Seonghyangjeongki-san water extract on transient ischaemic brain injury in mice
CONCLUSIONS: SHJKSmex protected the brain from ischaemic stroke in mice through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic activities. Our findings suggest that SHJKSmex is a promising therapeutic candidate for the development of a new formulation for ischaemia-induced brain damage.PMID:34184969 | DOI:10.1080/13880209.2021.1941130

Circular noncoding RNA circ_0007865, serves as a competing endogenous RNA, targeting the miR-214-3p/FKBP5 axis to regulate oxygen-glucose deprivation-induced injury in brain microvascular endothelial cells
Conclusion According to these results, circ_0007865 deficiency could attenuate OGD-induced HBMEC damage by modulating the miR-214-3p/FKBP5 axis, hinting at a promising therapeutic target for future acute IS therapy.

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 3992: Long-Term Adverse Effects of Neck Radiotherapy in Childhood on the Carotid Arteries in Survivors of Hodgkin Lymphoma
Conclusions: Vascular changes in survivors of childhood Hodgkin lymphoma after neck RT seem to be long-term. Therefore, these patients may have an increased risk of stroke. We suggest refinement of international guidelines according to our results.

McConnell ’ s Bid to Downplay Freezes Undermined by History of Politicians Lying About Their Health
After Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell froze during a press conference this month, the Kentucky Republican’s second such episode this summer, his office released a note from the Capitol physician intended to calm those worried about his ability to continue at his job. Dr. Brian Monahan told McConnell in the letter that there was “no evidence that you have a seizure disorder or that you experienced a stroke, TIA or movement disorder such as Parkinson’s disease.” Monahan suggested the episodes may be related to the Leader’s concussion in March or to dehydration.  [time-brightcove n...

Granulomatous angiitis of the CNS revealing a Hodgkin lymphoma
Apart from the iatrogenic effects of treatment, neurologic complications of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) can be divided into direct (meningeal or intracranial/spinal localization) and indirect (paraneoplastic/immune complications).1 Here, we present a patient with granulomatous angiitis of the CNS (GANS) associated with HL that dramatically improved after the treatment of the angiitis by cyclophosphamide, methylprednisolone, and specific chemotherapy.

Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 deficiency reduces melanoma metastasis in liver.
Abstract High circulating cholesterol is associated with hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, and stroke. However, the relation between cholesterol and tumorigenesis/metastasis is controversial. The proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) regulates low-density lipoprotein cholesterol homeostasis by targeting the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) for degradation. PCSK9 is mostly expressed in liver, which is one of the most common sites for metastatic disease. To reveal the function of PCSK9 and also evaluate the impact of cholesterol in liver metastasis development, B16F1 melanoma cells were i...
