Low-dose acetylsalicylic acid for cancer prevention considering risk factors: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that aspirin intake is associated with a reduced incidence of colorectal, pancreatic, and prostate cancers and lymphomas.PMID:37302674 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.06.002

Cardiovascular adverse events in chronic myeloid leukemia patients treated with nilotinib or imatinib: A systematic review, meta-analysis and integrative bioinformatics analysis
CONCLUSION: CML patients who start with nilotinib have a higher risk of CAE than those with imatinib. Atherosclerosis caused by the inflammatory response and glycolipid metabolism disorder is the key mechanism of nilotinib cardiotoxicity. Rosuvastatin may be an effective treatment for the cardiotoxicity of nilotinib.PMID:36426222 | PMC:PMC9678945 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.966182

Hemorrhages in polycythemia vera and essential thrombocythemia: epidemiology, description, and risk factors, learnings from a large cohort
DISCUSSION: The morbidity and mortality of bleedings in MPN should not be underestimated, and some patients could beneficiate from cytoreduction in order to reducing bleeding risk. Iatrogenic bleedings represent a substantial proportion of bleeding and could be better prevented.PMID:35545123 | DOI:10.1055/a-1849-8477

"Vitreous Hemorrhage and Long-Lasting Priapism After COVID-19 m-RNA Based Vaccine: A Case Report"
CONCLUSIONS: Due to the several predisposing factors such as diabetes, aspirin assumption, history of blood dyscrasia and infectious retinitis, the relationship between the acute intraocular bleeding and the BNT162b2 inoculation remains difficult to ascertain in this patient. However, the occurrence of lasting priapism and vitreous hemorrhage within 24 h from the vaccination is a critical event which deserves to be mentioned.PMID:35505605 | DOI:10.1177/11206721221098880

Treatment and Clinical Endpoints in Polycythemia Vera: Seeking the Best Obtainable Version of the Truth
Blood. 2022 Mar 10:blood.2022015680. doi: 10.1182/blood.2022015680. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPolycythemia vera (PV) is a Philadelphia chromosome-negative myeloproliferative neoplasm driven by the JAK2 V617F (or rarely exon 12) mutation. Its natural history can extend over a few decades, and therefore treatment planning is predicated on continual re-assessment of traditional risk features (age, prior thrombosis) to evaluate the need for cytoreduction besides foundational therapy with low-dose aspirin and stringent phlebotomy. Shorter- and longer-term patient goals should be considered in light of several variables such...

Polycythemia Vera: Rapid Evidence Review
Am Fam Physician. 2021 Jun 1;103(11):680-687.ABSTRACTPolycythemia vera is one of three stem-cell-derived myeloid malignancies commonly known as myeloproliferative neoplasms. It is characterized by erythrocytosis, often with associated leukocytosis and thrombocytosis. It has a significant negative impact on overall mortality and morbidity in the form of arterial and venous clots, symptoms of fatigue and pruritus, and conversion to leukemia and myelofibrosis. The World Health Organization's major diagnostic criteria include an elevated hemoglobin or hematocrit level, abnormal results on bone marrow biopsy, and presence of th...
