Subsets of Idiopathic Inflammatory Myositis Enriched for Contemporaneous Cancer Relative to the General Population
ConclusionIn a tertiary referral center population, anti-TIF1 γ was most strongly associated with breast and ovarian cancer. Patients with anti-synthetase, anti-MDA5, or anti-HMGCR antibodies had the same cancer risk as the general population. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Functional analysis reveals that Tinagl1 is required for normal muscle development in mice through the activation of ERK signaling
In this study, we analyzed the function of Tinagl1 in skeletal muscle using knockout mice and cell experiments. Although primary myoblasts isolated from Tinagl1-decifient (Tinagl1-/-) mice differentiated into normal myotubes, and treatment with recombinant Tinagl1 did not affect the proliferation or differentiation of C2C12 myoblasts, Tinagl1-/- mice exhibited reduced body mass and calf muscle weights compared to the control group (Tinagl1flox/flox). Furthermore, Tinagl1-/- mice showed myofibers with centrally located nuclei, which is a morphological marker of regenerating muscle or myopathy. In addition, the capillary den...

Presence of anti-TIF-1 γ, anti-Ro52, anti-SSA/Ro60 and anti-Su/Ago2 antibodies in breast cancer: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Autoantibodies to TIF-1γ were found in two patients with breast cancer without dermatomyositis (DM). More common specificities were autoantibodies anti-SSA/Ro60, anti-Ro52/TRIM21 and anti-Su/Ago2. More studies are needed in order to establish the biological meaning of the presence of SARD-associated autoantibodies in breast cancer.PMID:33876712 | DOI:10.1080/08923973.2021.1910833

18F-FDG PET/CT versus conventional investigations for cancer screening in autoimmune inflammatory myopathy in the era of novel myopathy classifications
Conclusion
18F-FDG PET/CT does not appear to be useful in cancer screening for AIM patients compared with conventional screening and carries potential harms associated with follow-up investigations. The risk of cancer in AIM differs by myositis-specific antibodies-defined subsets and cancer screening is likely to be indicated only in high-risk patients, particularly DM. These results, replicated in larger, multicentered studies, may carry significant consequences for optimal management of AIM and health resource utilization.

Effects of a series of acidic drugs on L-lactic acid transport by the monocarboxylate transporters MCT1 and MCT4.
CONCLUSION: This inhibition may cause an accumulation of intracellular L-lactic acid leading to acidification and muscular disorders.

Anti-synthetase syndrome: anti-PL-7, anti-PL-12 and anti-EJ
CONCLUSIONS: ASS (anti-PL-7, PL-12 and EJ) was found to predominantly affect white women. Although the autoantibodies described in the present study are more related to pulmonary than joint involvement, our patients showed a significant percentage of both types of involvement and a high percentage of myopathy. We also observed a low mortality rate.

Incidence of malignancies in biopsy-proven inflammatory myopathy
Conclusion: The prevalence of malignancy was very low in our cohort as compared to the studies from other countries. Breast cancer was the most common malignancy associated with DM. The type of associated malignancy was quite variable.
