Platelet membrane-derived microparticles may be biomarkers in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and can promote the invasion and metastasis of hepatoma carcinoma cells
CONCLUSION: The content of PMPs in the plasma of HCC patients increases, and it can also promote the invasion and migration of HCC.PMID:37680187 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17499

Exploring the molecular pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma: A state of art review of the current literature
This study aims to present a comprehensive overview of fibrolamellar carcinoma (FLC), with a focus on its epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. FLC frequently incorporate features of stomach pain, weight loss, and malaise in their clinical signs and symptoms, which are generally nonspecific Ultimately, the most common physical finding is an abdominal mass or hepatomegaly. With this said, several unusual presentations have been documented such as Budd Chiari syndrome, severe anaemia, non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis and many more. In regards to this tumour's genetic analysis, it is characteri...

Improved anti-tumor activity of fluorinated camptothecin derivatives 9-fluorocamptothecin and 7-ethyl-9-fluorocamptothecin on hepatocellular carcinoma by targeting topoisomerase I
Bioorg Chem. 2023 Jun 12;139:106652. doi: 10.1016/j.bioorg.2023.106652. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary liver cancer is one of the most common malignant cancers of the digestive system that lacks effective chemotherapeutic drugs in clinical settings. Camptothecin (CPT) and its derivatives have been approved for cancer treatment; however, their application is limited by their systemic toxicity. For lead optimization in new drug discovery stages, fluorination is an effective and robust approach to increase the bioavailability and optimize the pharmacokinetics of candidate compounds, thereby improving their efficacy. To...

Graphene oxide reinforced chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol antibacterial coatings on stainless steel surfaces exhibit superior bioactivity without human cell cytotoxicity
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2023 May 20;227:113362. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2023.113362. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe study proposes an alternative therapeutics to diminish bacterial attachment in biomedical implants by modifying their surface with passive coatings. A uniform, thin-film of chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol/graphene oxide (CS/PVA/GO) was coated on 316 L stainless steel (SS) surface through spread casting followed by solvent evaporation. The abundant anchoring sites available at macromolecular interfaces of chitosan/PVA matrix facilitated a smooth, dense loading of GO. The effect of GO content on physicoche...

Characterization of CPH:SA microparticle-based delivery of interleukin-1 alpha for cancer immunotherapy
CONCLUSIONS: CPH:SA-based IL-1α-MPs generated a slow and sustained systemic release of IL-1α resulting in reduced weight loss, systemic inflammation, and hypotension accompanied by an adequate anti-tumor immune response in HNSCC-tumor bearing mice. Therefore, MPs based on CPH:SA formulations may be promising as delivery vehicles for IL-1α to achieve safe, effective, and durable antitumor responses for HNSCC patients.PMID:37206237 | PMC:PMC10189482 | DOI:10.1002/btm2.10465

Fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma presenting as cholestatic jaundice: An unusual presentation of a rare disease
We present a case report of a young male who presented with cholestatic jaundice and on evaluation was diagnosed to have fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma. He underwent successful surgical resection of the tumor. In young individuals presenting with unexplained cholestasis, fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma should be considered.PMID:37077092 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_316_21
